Chopping spares frustration
« on: May 19, 2017, 10:18:09 AM »
Just a small rant. Frustrated with chopping spares this past week.

Bowled a 6 game tournament Saturday, missed 4 spares. Rushed 1 10 pin and chopped the 3-6-10 and the 6-10 twice in the last game to miss the stepladder final by 4 pins.

Bowled our summer scratch league last night and chopped 2 more spares in the 4 games.

So in 10 games I've missed 6 spares, 1 10 pin and 5 chopped of the 3-6, 3-6-10, or 6-10. I've thrown straight with my Mix and I've hooked it thinking it might work better right now and still ended up with the same result. It's just frustrating when it should have been 10 straight clean games

Know exactly how you feel, the 4/7, and the 3-10 split just drives me crazy, you throw it 60 ft it well off your hand, hit your mark (majority of the time) and still chops it: wanna pull my hair out most of the time!!!   :-[

On the bright side....damn good bowling I'd say! I am still aspiring to even reach those heights. Good job, Dude!

It's frustrating when I've been throwing the ball pretty well lately and making good adjustments.

Bowling another tournament this Saturday so hopefully the results turn out a little better

I know how you feel....

This last season I struggled with right side combo spares besides single pin leaves. Only near the end of the season (Feb/March) I started to feel comfortable. On sweepers night I realized I've been doing really well picking up 3 6 or 6 10 leaves..... till I left the 3 6 after a 4 bagger.

Granted the 3 was offset after the sweep, I wasn't going to chop the 3 pin. I took out the 6 on its right side instead. Only open for the night.... At least I took sweepers lol

Well.....good luck to you! I hope you can keep that focus! I'll be at Nationals for an entire week. Keep your fingers crossed for me as well, cause I'm gonna need it! LOL!

Maybe I can put a spin on this to make you feel better.........

When I was a 170 avg bowler making the 3/6/10 or 3/10 split was almost automatic....because I left plenty of them and I knew what to do every time I left it standing.

Ever since my average climbed above 200 i don't leave the 3/6/10 or 3/10 split standing that much anymore.  So now when it does occasionally happen after a 4 or 5 bagger this happens.......

I stand on the approach 2nd guessing and 3rd guessing myself on what I need to do and talk myself right out of picking up that freaking spare!!!

The whole situation totally sucks because you roll 4 or 5 perfect shots right in the pocket and crush the pins.  Then for some freaking reason your next perfect shot goes high and you're not exactly sure how it happened.  Now your standing up there and trying to figure out how to go really low and hit the 3/6 pocket???  Hey guys do you mind if I run to the bar and get a shot of Jameson before I have to shoot this spare????

I don't know if I'd agree with that completely. I'd say the 3-6, 3-6-10, 6-10, and 3-10 are my most common multi-pin spares.

I rarely leaves washouts and buckets as most of my misses are generally left of target and/or my ball speed can get a little slow at times.

The 6-10 has become my least favorite "makeable" spare. I miss it all three ways that it can be missed.

On a side note, it may be time to re-apply polish to my Mix. Maybe that's the answer because when I first got it I never seemed to chop anything

This is me as well, and I'm really frustrated at how low of a %age I have in making the 3-6-10.

One of my practice goals this summer is to spend at least one whole practice game rolling between the 3-6 during my sessions.

Bowled 6 games of qualifying and 2 games in a stepladder for a tournament yesterday and didn't chop or miss any makeable spares

The 6-10, 2-5, and 2-4-5 are the spares that I chop the most. Since I started using a plastic ball on all spares, I have somewhat reduced the chops. But chops still happen too frequently.

Looks like we all share the same frustration with 3/6/10 and other multi pin spares.  I think the only one I chopped this weekend was the 2/4/5/7.  It takes a special kind of skill to hit the 1 thin enough to slide in front of 2 and then bounce it off the wall and go between the 4/7 and take out the 8; while at the same time deflect enough to miss the 5 pin. Then get back up there and chop it leaving just the 5 pin.  I've also perfected taking the 6 pin out cleanly between the 3 and 10. ;)

That damn THS might be good at guiding balls into the pocket, but the THS is equally good at guiding balls directly into the 3 leaving the 6/10 and directly into the 2 leaving the 5. >:(

The THS even takes control of my Storm MIX occasionally, and that ball shouldn't be moving anywhere, lol.  Love this game!!!
