clean and dull did this....
« on: October 24, 2014, 11:41:26 AM »
I have some CnD from the ebo brand that I had for long time. The bottle had become distorted over time - this never happened before.

Anyway, I used it last week and I most always wear gloves when working with chemicals. I put on my disposable mechanic (nitrile) gloves on and the CnD made contact with finger tips. The finger tips looked like it melted a bit. The tip of fingers were rough. It melted the rubber or just reacted to the rubber material, I don't know....

I stopped using it and finished the job with the Rx instead.... BTW, how do you get rid of your old chemicals, old polishes and cleaners?

That's why I have stopped using the "aggressive" cleaners unless it's one of those almost impossible to get off belt marks. I honestly think the strong ones tend to smooth out the peaks and valleys causing the ball to need a resurface earlier than it would otherwise be needed. (But I could be wrong!  ;D )

Since we are in CA, can't we just pour our unused chemicals down the drain?  ???   ;D ;D

I would contact your local fire department. They usually run a local chemical and prescription pick up a few times a year.

As for the CND, I'm interested to see if our bottle has become radio active as well.

Go Remedy! Woo Hoo!

Here in NJ, local counties have a Household Hazardous waste disposal day once every other month or so. Tomorrow, I'm bringing some left over chemicals as long as they're in their original container and fused fluorescent light bulbs (contain poisonous vapors) and the like.

Kind of surprised Calif doesn't have something similar.

FYI not sure about the Powerhouse branded Clean n Dull but I'm still using old Track branded versions and they have a warning about keeping it away from the vinyl inserts. It is supposed to melt/dissolve them. I have brushed against them while using C&D but I have never had any chemical reaction with the two. Maybe I got lucky??

In SoCal, different cities have hazardous waste processing sites that are open to the public once a month or so. Our heathen friends in NorCal have similar available services.  ;D

I have used CnD for several years regularly with no issues
I don't let it sit for any length of time without using it

I have a bottle that is at least 8 years old and probably older, just don't remember when I bought this quart of C&D. Anyhow, I still use it and have no issues with it.

The old CnD were in white bottles, the ebo came in a clear bottle that seem to have "melted" it's like rubber now....

Anyhow, there's a waste plant near the indoor track... I'll see if they accept chemicals there...

I'm not sure if I'll follow Milo's ways, sink and strom drain, hehehe...but I like they he thinks....

My CnD is also in a clear bottle and it has collapsed some, but it's not like rubber and the product itself is fine. I think much like when you spray cleaners like Formula 409 and feel it take the oxygen out of the air you breathe, CnD is similar and what has happened to the bottle is, the chemicals don't allow air in the confined area of the bottle and it collapses. I would just put what remains in another container as more than likely the product itself is fine. Why waste money?

My old CND in the clear bottle looked like it melted the bottle in all kinds of funny shapes.. The new white bottle seems like it is holding up.  I have also heard that CND had change some since it first came out.   There is a reason why it isn't allowed during competition any more. USBC has determined that it does affect the surface.  The surface does seem really tacky after using it but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't melt the surface a bit and smooth all the friction points down a bit.
