Underside of the shoe.
Do you ever do it? If yes, how?
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

My old Tour Ultras had heels that were inconsistent.  Eventually I developed a bit of "dirt" on it and it was better.  Any time that dirt was removed I would stick.

As for the sole, I try to keep it somewhat clean, but today's soles aren't always leather.  Using a wire brush on a synthetic material screams short lifespan to me.  Maybe a light brushing, but nothing like I used to do to my Linds.

Unless there's severe dirt, I use a wire brush very lightly so as not to disturb the nap that has been working.  If the nap is crushed or I'm sliding a bit too much, then I'll be firmer with the brush, just to raise the nap a little bit. Otherwise, I leave well enough alone.

As someone else mentioned the soles seem very thin now compared to my old Lind's.  The only thing I do nowadays is to change out my homemade teflon pucks at the start of the season.  After that, I will occasionally check them out and replace them if needed.  So far, since Sept they are still holding up.

I use a felt slide sole. About every two weeks, if needed, i will gently go over the surface with a scotch brite pad.
