Ebay Shipping Charges Lately
« on: January 20, 2018, 05:42:31 PM »
A lot of balls lately that I have seen on ebay would be nice to bid on, but when the shipping is so high, it locks out bowlers near the opposite coast.  Those closer have a lower shipping cost so are more likely to win the bid if the bowlers are including the shipping cost in their decision.

I don't remember seeing such high costs until recently.  Some are charging $60 with many in the $50-55 range.

UPS and FedEx raised their rates when oil went up but I don't remember seeing them drop it when oil went back down.

A single ball shipped from central California to west Palm Beach Florida this week cost me $24. Sounds like those sellers are trying to make more money by jacking up the shipping

I use FedEx and set up an account with them. Some east coast locations costs me $30, but most are under that.

And the other thing I like about FedEx is if it's a residential address, they will deliver on Saturdays at no extra charge

My experience is same as milo. I also have an account with fedex and I’ve never shipped anything to the west coast that even cost me 30.  I’m in PA.

I think these eBay folks are using usps.  Costs much more sending in the mail. When I see those, I just move along.

Wish I had bowlingball.com's shipping account lol.  You can get return labels from them for $18 from UPS and Florida is like 2000 miles away.  As for the shipping companies raising rates and not dropping back down can probably thank all the extra business from Amazon for that.

But they only deliver to businesses on Mondays. So, from a practical point of view, they deliver to homes 5 days a week.
UPS delivers to everyone Monday  Friday.

Side note: Interestingly, Amazon Prime makes the USPS deliver their packages on Sundays now.

Mega businesses get a bigger discount when they have an account than individuals who sell a ball 1x every 2 or 3 months.

I have individual accounts with UPS and FEDEX; so, I get a tiny discount compared to someone who ships from their local FEDEX or UPS office every once in a while, with no account, who gets no discount. Bowling.com and such places get a MUCH bigger discount than I do.

I echo on creating an account. By having an account it shaved about $5 for me shipping from Utah to East coast

Shipping from Arkansas I can use fedex with a fedex account to ship to either cost for $24-$28 max.
Businesses are always a few dollars cheaper. Most shipping usually runs me $15-$20
