goals for upcoming fall season
« on: July 22, 2014, 08:46:23 AM »
With the onset of the leagues quickly approaching, what are some goals you have set for this season? Was the goals you set last season achieved, or are they still in tact or demolished?

My goals this year is to:
1 - get that elusive 800 series
2 - not buy so many new pieces. I am happy with my equipment currently. I added in the neighborhood of 12 new balls last season. I have 5 I haven't even picked up yet....  I know kinda stupid!

Last years goal was to increase my average by 10, I increased by 5. I would like that other 5 this year.

A good rule of thumb for white belts is the first number of your pants should be smaller than the second number if you are thinking of wearing one.

And then, still don't do it.  ;D

Holy crap, we agree on something?

There is already a scale to determine your execution.  Score.  Nothing else matters.

Practice is the time to grade your execution, when the arrows are up it is time to worry about score.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a guy that just shot 620 say "but I threw it great"……………… Uh, no you didn't.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

So why have I had nights shooting 750 and knowing I didn't throw it very well?  Is the appropriate answer, "uh, yes I did"?

To have fun bowling again. Between injuries and being overly competitive i've burnt myself out repeatedly the past few years. Haven't bowled at all this summer so the start of the season in a month or so whenever my two leagues begin are bound to be interesting.

Wait, aren't you the guy who is always bitching about Joe House Hack only scoring because the conditions are too easy? And now you agree about scoring = execution???

Gizmo,

I'm pretty sure I preached this to you before you were enlightened.

GTGT,

It doesn't matter.  If you shoot 750 you bowled pretty well.  If you shoot 620 you didn't.  Obviously for some people 620 is bowling well for them, but we are talking about a higher level than that.

It's bowling, not execution.

I've seen the light.  I was bitter because I was the guy shooting 620, swearing like I was throwing it great because I knew more and thought more than the "clueless" guys that just walk in and plop 700s down without even trying.  Once I finally got a clue, my scores went absolutely nuts and I started sweeping brackets and doing well at tournaments.  I was wrong before.

Goals:

Shoot 800
Raise average
Raise spare percentage
Bowl more tournaments
Continue to learn and get better

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I know I don't bowl on some of you guys level 600 is a good series for me. Two weeks ago went out and threw 677. Everybody was coming by telling me what a great series. I bowled like crap just got lucky on a lot of shots and I knew it.

Sometimes luck plays a bigger factor than others. If we are honest with our selves we know when its luck and when its bowling well.

My standard goals from season-to-season are to go 30-clean, shoot 300 and a 700-series or better.  My personal goals for the upcoming season are improving my mental game and lane play decision make to adjustments sooner.  My other high priority goal is bringing my 10-pin spare cover percentages to 90%.

My point is individually relative.  FOR ME, I know there are nights where I've thrown the ball well and consistently got some rough breaks along the way, but still other nights where I have scored well (in some cases VERY well) knowing full well I didn't throw the ball nearly as well as one of my average to below average nights on a THS.  My point, under your example of you is (true or false on a given night?):  "Everybody was coming by telling me what a great bad series. I bowled like crap well just got unlucky on a lot of shots and I knew it".

That would be possible.

BTW, lol at anyone that would say "what a bad series"  :P  :P

Over a large enough sample, especially on a THS, there will be nights where execution is there and you don't score and nights where execution is not there and you score well.  JMO

To see the look of joy in my 4 year old son's eyes as he knocks down pins for the first time with a real bowling ball at a bowling alley.

As much as I will be doing the typical improvement of my game, seeing my son do it would eclipse any improvement I make.

#2 will be getting rid of some of the bad habbits I developed while bowling with a cast on my foot for 7 years.

#3 Get my average back to 195-210 area.
