Help with ball choice...
« on: January 25, 2015, 10:18:43 PM »
Just getting back in the game after a long absence. The Track Sheer Havoc (particle pearl) was one of my favorites and it hit a ton. Wish I'd kept it. The old Track balls were popular at the time and times have changed. I never really cared for Ebonite and Storm, although, my son does well with Storm. Not a league member anymore and I'm usually throwing on a day old THS. Lanes are old synthetic. My rev's are medium. Speed is around 15mph with a high track. I would like to try a pearl ball.
Here I am with a Brunswick Wizard. Any suggestions?

The Motiv Sigma Sting is on closeout.  It is an awesome pearl benchmark ball that is versatile on many conditions.  Other options for pearls would be the Roto Grip Unhinged, Storm Hy-Road Pearl, and the 900 Global All Night.

Even though these are general suggestions, I always recommend working with a good pro shop who will watch you bowl some frames.  This way, they can really match you up with what will truly be best for your game.
Current Ball Arsenal

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock

Strike King. Great ball, great price. Especially for the recreational player.

If and when you decide to bowl more, then explore other options with mid-level pieces.

What would you like this ball to do?  There are many good choices on the market but yet it's hard to suggest a ball let alone a drill with out knowing your goal?  Was the video a shot of where you like to play and want a ball to roll the same or something different?

If it were me I'd keep throwing that Wizard!

You move well, throw well and the ball hooks plenty!

We have a guy throwing strong 7s in a league or two I am in and he is using an AMF Firehawk.  It must be 5 years older than your Wizard!

The Wizard will hook too early and go Brooklyn once the lanes transition. I was hoping a pearl would give more length while retaining energy with a hard move left. This will also be needed on used, but not burnt lanes.

I dunno, man. Maybe just clean and polish up the Wizard and call it a night.

Platinum Ringer or Brute for length on the breakdown.   I think the Platinum will probably be better because it is a little smoother at at the breakpoint.

Also take a look at the Hammer Arson Low Flare, it could be good for what you want.  --  JohnP
