How many balls?
« on: September 24, 2016, 01:13:12 PM »
How many balls do you carry to league at one house?  For years now I've been taking 4 balls.  Oil, Medium, Dry and Plastic.  After thinking about it I found that I usually only use one ball plus plastic.  Sometimes two but very seldom three.  I'm really thinking about getting a two ball bag with a tote for the spare ball and cut down on all the choices.

Anyone else doing this?

Usually 3.
2 reactives and one spare.
But on Monday's match I'll be bringing 4.
The Scandal, the Grudge, the Freakshow and the spare.
I wasn't planing on using the Grudge at the alley the match is at, because the machines there often keep the balls down there, and the machines don't stop when it happens like it does on the home turf alley.
So balls might come back with marks on them.
But I did so well with the Grudge on Wednesday's practice that I want to bring it.
The Freakshow is for when the lane becomes very dry there, which is highly likely to happen there since they put on so little oil there. House shot pretty much, but the volume is so small, and it's hot in there.
Bringing the Scandal because there's already a few marks on it, so if the lanes keep our balls down there, I'll stick with the Scandal.

For matches on home turf, I'm bringing 3 balls.
Grudge, Scandal and spare.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

Right now, 3 plus spare no matter where I'm going on a house shot. Black Ops, Night Hawk SE, Boost Pearl, Booyah. Sport shot, I'll throw my Dream On and Desert Hook in the bag.

One medium/heavy solid (Black Eagle), one medium hybrid (GB2MVP), one medium/light pearl (Track Heat), +spare ball.
Works on most THS.

For our men's league I take 3 + urethane.

For the league I bowl solely for fun with my fiance I just rotate 2 + urethane

Four.  Heavy, medium, medium to light and plastic.

Usually only use one ball and plastic, but when you have to go to something different having two to choose from has been very helpful.

For league it's three total (one spare ball).  Usually one goes untouched. I have a personal rule to not switch balls unless I've tried everything else first.

I fail to see the reasoning behind guys dragging in 6-8 balls to bowl on typical house shots.  They will go through their whole arsenal searching for the magic ball that allows them to play their magic line to the pocket, and waste a whole game (or more) in the process.  They just end up lifting them back into their trunk later...

For me the dilemma is which three?   Too many good choices!

I've decided that I'm taking this one step further this year - I'm going to see if I can bowl the season with just one ball (and plastic for spares).  So far, so good after 9 games - the average is already up 15 pins albeit in a small sample size.

Those league nights of using 4 balls in desperation, I'm over it....

Obviously bowling in tournaments and UBA/Bowling Federation matches in other houses, that's a different story - the full arsenal is coming out (4 balls and plastic)...

I take 3 to my house shot league but only need 1 and a spare ball.  Sport leagues I will bring 4 or 5 the first night of a new pattern but usually cut it to 3 after I figure out how I want to play them.

6 to my Challenge league, although I rarely bring my tournament arsenal stuff.  If I normally work with 6 options in tournaments, I believe in working with 6 options in league.  This also eliminates the excuse of "should have brought x ball tonight" that I hear from so many league bowlers.

4 to league, 2 solids, a pearl, and a plastic spare ball which I will be replacing with either a Mix or the new Purple Pearl Urethane Hammer to have a ball that can double as a spare/dry lane ball and is more durable than plastic. For tournaments I'd probably take 5, the fifth being a hybrid since they always come in handy!
