I know nothing about bowling
« on: July 01, 2015, 04:35:13 AM »
Local Pro will sell you a rock and call it a diamond-- two alley recently closed in my area so choices are limited.

My Son - is trying out for local high school team - he has a Solid Legend, Assassin and a Trac for spares-- but comes over the ball an is enamored with the large hook, which, when it hits the pocket is great but when flattens out he leave 8's and 10's.

I need a good pro in the Westchester NY area.  I know Buddy's is about 2 hours away-- is it worth the trip?

Your choices are pretty limited in that area.  Buddies or drive to Long Island or New Jersey.
Rich Jacobson used to be in White Plains, must be drilling out of his house since there is no address listed on his website, richjacobsonbowling.com.  If you are comfortable with something like that.

In NJ, Ken Yokobovsky is a gold level coach at Rockaway Lanes in Rockaway, NJ. I should be about an hour to an hour and half from Westchester in non-rush hour.

I believe PBA champion Tommy Delutz is a bit closer to you:  https://www.facebook.com/TommyDelutzJrProShopAndLearningCenter

i can vouch for Rich Jacobsen. i graduated from sacred heart university which is still assistant coaches the womens team. he is drilling from his house and still has clients in the white plains area. when i was there he did a great job with the girl's equipment, knew his stuff and seemed like he was the guy to go to in the white plains area. Buddies pro shop is also a great option. Tim and Chris did my stuff when i lived in the area. buddies has a nationally recognized reputation from everyone theres no doubt about that including drilling for national PBA guys. i guess it depends on if you think it is worth it to drive 2 hrs for a reputation pro shop like that.

Jeff is correct about Ken Y. who has drilled several balls for me. Ken also has a pro shop in Elmwood Park (Bergen County) which will save you about 30 minutes of driving time. Check this website: http://www.proimagebowling.com

I live in Norway and took the trip to buddies back in 2007.  Every ball I have ordered since has been great. You cant go wrong, easy to order and the grip is perfect everytime.  :)

Thank you all -- How would I get in touch with Rich?  Also Buddies seems to be very popular in these parts.

My son is using a legend and tearing through the pocket, then switches to the Assassin when the lanes dry up.

A local friend who is a 200 vg has him rolling the ball nicely compared to throwing it and he is getting better angle to the pocket.

One question I can never remember  If you leave the ten pin and the 6 pin is in the gutter you move right or left

thanks all
