listening to music while bowling to concentrate
« on: April 19, 2015, 01:35:25 PM »
I can understand how some people do this to concentrate, but from a scientific standpoint, can this also hurt performance? The reason I ask is because performance is affected by music, which is why weightlifters listen to rock music. It helps the person get pumped up and perform better. Likewise, classical music can relax a person, causing the person to not do as much as quickly or effectively. Also, people naturally fall into rhythm with music. Looking at these points, is it possible that listening to music can throw off a bowlers timing, causing mistakes? I see bowlers messing up all the time when the music cuts off suddenly for the strike pots to be drawn while they are mid approach.

I LOVE listening to music when I bowl!! It pumps me up! and really gets me focused!
However, I can't, and have not yet figured out.....how to bowl with the earbuds in my ear. I just can't do it.

So I listen to music right up to the time that it's my turn. Then I bowl with the melodies floating in my head.

I think it messes with your awareness having things in your ears..

Whoa this strayed from the intended conversation lmao. Anyway, I totally understand how music can help benefit a bowler. I am not against people listening to music in the slightest. I enjoy dumping a little money in the jukebox every now and then. For me, listening to music and joking with my team helps me to focus when I get up to bowl again because I am not focusing on my bad shots

The only time i wear earphones is when I'm practicing by myself.  If anyone else is bowling with me, be it practice or league, the phones are in the bag.  To me its kind of rude if your are with other people and you got the earphones on.

I listen to all kind of music, doesn't throw me off anymore than usual. Can be a slow song or a fast one, doesn't make a difference. Well actually it may make me focus even more if the beat doesn't match my timing.

There is a singles/scratch league that doesn't seem bad to have earbuds in. But all the other leagues it seems rude to have them in. Generally I like people, bowling is social. Never like bowling with the people that "unplug" them selves from the social aspect of the game with ear buds/phones. Might as well get used to not having them in if you plan on doing tournaments.

I don't listen to music per say, but I do have a song, or part of a song that I repeat in my head.  It helps with my timing, and that is all that I using it for.
The outside noises do not bother me as much.

I use earbuds 100% of the time. What reason could a tournament use to make them illegal?
