Lower Back Pain!
« on: July 10, 2017, 10:25:50 AM »
Hello bowling family,
I am a two handed bowler and I am 39. As soon as I took a second lesson with my pso I pulled my lower back muscle. He changed the way I stand, hold the ball and how I release the ball. I was on the medication (flex and IB 800mg) and did not bowl for two weeks. Did he tell me something wrong, because the first lesson when he taught me how to stand, hold the ball etc, etc. the only problem I had was being tired real fast, but that has pass. If you all need to see a video of before and after I can record my new technique so that you could help better. Thanks again for your time.

As someone who has suffered for years from lower back pain, just watching a two-handed bowler hurts my back.  I could never bowl like that.

I just had my second back surgery a couple of weeks ago so I'm sympathetic to anyone having back issues.  Did you stretch properly beforehand?  Anytime you do something your body isn't used to, it is critical that you stretch and warm up properly.  The fact that you are bowling two handed only increases the need to stretch before you bowl.  Take care of that back or you could end up like me.

Are you taking lessons to learn how to bowl 2 handed or to improve your 2 handed game? It seems to me if you are just learning then learning 2 handed for a 39 year old is a hard way to learn to bowl and I would think one would have to be very flexible. Regardless you did do something wrong or your back would not be messed up. If you are fairly new to 2 handed bowling I would say give it up and go conventional because at your age it is only going to get worse, just my 2 cents and I am no coach or doctor.

Agreed!!! Once you turn 40 everything seems to get broken a hell of a lot easier, and recovery takes twice as long.  Also, some of the things/parts in your spinal column can never heal.  They are just like teeth, once it goes bad it doesn't grow back or fix itself.  I've had two back surgeries including a titanium plate in my upper back and don't regret either procedure.  It wasn't a big deal and less painfull and probably quicker than a root canal.
