Best Compliment to a Hy-Road for me?
« on: September 12, 2017, 11:15:33 PM »
Hello all,
It's been a while, as I have been tied up with a whole slew of things this fall, and I hope all of you are doing well, especially if you are in the parts of the US battling the dreadful storms. Now, on to one of the enjoyable things, bowling. I have mentioned previously that I am a slow tweener, with a ball speed with my 14lb. ball of between 12-14 mph, with around (now) 320 revs. I roll on a pretty straightforward medium house shot, and actually like the 1500 grit polished Storm finish on my Hy-Road for my benchmark ball. There are times, where the shot gets a tad slicker, with heavier conditioner, or I have encountered younger two-handed players using urethane, and am looking for a ball to "ball up" to in these situations to compliment my fav, my Hy-Road. I do know that two strong options are the Code Red, which seems to be reviewed very positively, and the Timeless, which seems to be polarizing. Both share that R2S hybrid cover that is my favorite, in my preferred surface prep. The question is, which core would better compliment my goals? The 14 pound core numbers lead me to suspect the Code Red may be better for this purpose, yet I know that usually, for those of us with less ball speed, they tend to recommend the symmetrically balls like the Timeless. I have the option of the testing most of the Storm/Roto line in just under two weeks at a demo, but I am also open to other brands, if anyone has a suggestion or recommendation. Thanks again for reading this long post out of nowhere, and I look forward to your advice.

Code Red is a good option, or you can go on
Roto-grips side also and check out the No Rules Exist, or Dare Devil Trick.

Its not a ton stronger than the Hy-Road but the IQ Tour with surface can handle heavier oil better and it gives a nice smooth option to compliment your Hy-Road.
Newer balls come and ago but some great balls stay around like the Hy-Road and IQ Tour.

Your right hack, BUT as others mentioned, it's also about carry, and unless you keep the IQ in front of you, it's 10/7 pin city all day.

I stand by my above recommendations.

I also am not saying as you were bashing me, just based on what the op is open to is all. The IQ is also in the same performance line as the Hyroad (He mentions something above it).

Also any of those 3 also makes sense, because their also earlier reacting, while the Hyroad goes real long, making the Hyroad a good step down to open up the lane with, once there is a bit of breakdown in the fronts.

Just threw my tour for the first time a little while ago and the carry was definitely a step down from the Hy-Road but not as bad as I was expecting (granted seemed to have decent head oil at beginning but did see it labor some at end).  Haven't throw any other Storm pieces since Shift so I will take your word.  Its also only a half step or so stronger at most than Hy-Road so your recommendations make more sense.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am kinda leaning toward the Code Red, based on what I have seen of it.

Yeah, once you get deeper than 3rd arrow, the Tour really struggles to hit.  You'll get it back up the hill, just not with much energy.

Then I am using my Scandal Pearl and praying with my low revs it carries.  Pretty much only use my IQ Tour to play down the boards on fresh.

Code Red would be a better step up than the IQ Tour.
