officially my worst night since youth league
« on: November 24, 2014, 12:13:31 AM »
Tonight, the best way to describe my bowling was abysmal, unless somebody has a better way to describe it. I went into tonight with a 186 average, which I feel is a little lower than where it should be, but I have been goofing off a lot and not bowling seriously. Well tonight, I wanted to try. So I tried. And tried. And did everything I could possibly think of. I walked out of the bowling alley without breaking 400 for the night. I did not tally up my games, but I think I shot between 350 and 375. The good news is I only threw one gutter ball in that whole set, and I hit pins with nearly every ball. You would not believe how many frames I had that were 7-2. as best as I can remember, I missed pins on my spare attempt two times for the entire night, and only on two spare attempts did I miss the front pin. I couldn't find a line for the pocket playing anywhere. I had a dead zone from 9-13 or so at the arrows where my ball would start hooking at my feet. If I threw left of that, I couldnt find a break point, and my ball would sail to the end of the lane. When I moved right of the zone into the 6-8 board zone, my ball went heavy and left a 4 pin or a split. If I moved even further right, my ball wouldn't make it back to the pocket. I was stumped all night.

How did other bowlers on your pair do?  If they had problems too, write it off to something wrong with the lanes.  If they bowled their normal scores, write it off to bad biorhythms.  --  JohnP

Another thing to consider is you may have put too much expectation on yourself.  Approach each shot in a vacuum and don't worry about the score or anything.  Just don't try so hard to score well.

The two left handers on my team did well, as did my dad who is a lower speed righty who can move deeper than I can and still generate angle. The two straighter bowlers did average or a little better. The team mate that generally plays around the same area I did also suffered, but was able to pick up spares where I was chopping all of mine. I pride myself in my spare game being the best on this league when I try. Not last night
