How can PBA bowlers be in leagues.  I always here of them being in leagues where they live.  How many times a year can they really show up?

There really isn't much to members bowling in league since the main events where they wouldn't be able to bowl is the major events. Other than that, during the week fall leagues is no big deal. It's not like back before the mid 90's where you were constantly traveling.

My league in NJ has various PBAers as substitutes every week.   Leslie Bohn is a member, hubby Parker is an occasional sub, and Johnny P is a regular sub  .  Johnny was a sub on my team a few weeks ago - it was like getting batting tips from Babe Ruth     I'm privileged to be bowling with such wonderful folks !

I wish it weren't an hour and 10 minutes drive for me. I'd be bowling league there myself. I really, really miss bowling in Monmouth county.

Charlest, I believe you have previously mentioned you currently drive 45 minutes to league because where you use to bowl (AMF house) is no longer a viable opiton for you.
I would gladly drive an additional 25 minutes to be able to bowl with Parker or his wife and Johnny P.  That's how much I love bowling and my respect for these legends would make every mile worth it to me.

I understand and I used to bowl league at Howell ... when I was younger. I still go down there to visit a friend who bowl league there or to watch a PBA50 or PBA regional. But even the house that takes me 45 minutes in non-rush hour, takes me a full hour in rush hour for league. That wears on an older guy like me, as I do it 2x a week.

If I were only 10 years younger, I would still be doing it (going to Howell and bowling league there). Heck, I have even thought about it, again, when I was having a hard time at one of my new leagues, earlier in the season.

Even back in the days when there was a real Tour, you would get some that came home if home was within a few hundred miles and they had missed the cut in a given week. 

I remember back in the early 90's having nights where Ozio and Wayne Webb and Mark Williams were all regular subs in the scratch league.  That was the year that Ozio was just absolutely on a tear.  Both he and Williams had little brothers that ALSO bowled in the league. 

Remember, also, that even back then, it was not a 52-week grind....but it also paid enough that sometimes even the good ones took a week or two off just to relax.
