Question for short pin-pap balls
« on: April 15, 2017, 12:52:38 PM »
One of my favorite balls has been a Storm Ride that I drilled with a 2 7/8" pin-pap and a large hole on my pap. However that ball cracked back in October or so.

I've been debating about getting another ball and using the same layout because it allowed me to stay in the track area but it was far from a lazy reaction.

Just wondering if I should look at doing it on another similar ball to the Ride or if something with a little stronger core could be better. Especially since the main reason I want to do this again is for shorter sport shots and the Open.

Looking for other people's opinions on what they've used for short pin-pap balls

I'm a medium/high rev rate and speed bowler and my first ball out of the bag on a fresh THS is my Hy Road with a 3 1/2 PAP.  I usually start out just a little left of the 20 board and hit the breakpoint around 7-10.  Really depends on what the lanes are telling me that night.  Comes right in and crushes the pocket with great carry and plenty of miss room.  Gradually move left as needed.  When I've moved to far left and that Hy Road can't make it across the middle of the lane to the breakpoint, I switch to my other Hy Road with a 5 1/2 PaP to give me the extra length needed.  That 2 ball system took some practice and tweaking but it's working now.
In the bag:  900 Global Zen, Hy Road Pearl, Astro Physix.

Just a little update. Drilled my Rack Attack Pearl approximately 50 x 2 7/8" x 30 and it's been great. Originally hit it with a used 1500 pad to break the polish and it still ended up being a little too angular.

Got a fresh 3000 pad and used it by hand and that got the reaction pretty close to what I was wanting. I've bowled 18 games in the past week between 2 tournaments and league on 3 different patterns (43 ft, 40 ft, 38 ft). I've used the Rack Attack 16 of the 18 games with a lot of success. A couple of bad games on burned pairs from averaging 235 or so for the 18 games.

Reaction is really close to what I wanted in comparing it to my Ride. Haven't added another hole yet as it was just under the limit when I drilled it up

I'm looking to do a drill similar to this on a solid Boost. Like 2.5*65 with a medium sized hole on the pap.

I'm really tempted to drill something on the lower end of the spectrum wih the pin closer to my PAP and sand it to 1000. Might go with a 2.5 since I wanted something a little stronger than the Ride (2 inches). Wish the Loco Solid or Rack Attack were still around because I think those fit perfectly.
