rib injury, timetable?

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a pretty bad rib injury and what their timetable was before they returned to bowling? I had a bad fall and cracked a rib with some internal bruising 5 weeks ago this friday and still can't even pick up a bowling ball let alone try to compete. My fall leagues start september 7th so was just curious as to what a realistic timetable could be?

Rib injuries can be tricky because we're always twisting, bending, etc.   Are you doing anything special besides rest? 

Once you start feeling better you'll want to be very careful and not rush things.  There may be some prescribed exercises and gentle stretching to keep you from re-injury, but everyone is different.  You'll have to listen to your body and back off when it tells you.

It's better to give it an extra month, if needed, to heal than to have it last way longer because you were eager to get back.  Best of luck to you.

I'm honestly not, the only real "strenuous" thing i have been doing is going for walks at night just to keep from going stir crazy...i take ibuprofen twice daily and ice it on and off every day and i still just seem to be getting nowhere after quite awhile now

Ribs can take around 8 weeks in a lot of cases.  When I had a cracked rib, I couldn't do too much for that timeframe.  Big thing now is to be careful, don't rush things, and be gentle with any exercises you're given.

It can take time depending on how your body heels. I've seen it take about 10 weeks for one person but I've also seen 6 weeks for someone different.

Don't rush it

Age, body type, weight, type of fx, Location of the fx, how you sleep.. many factors when it comes to the healing process. The ribs are tricky cause one of it's many function is for the respiratory system. The ribs constantly moves as we breath and move was previously stated.

Do not wrap you chest to ease the pain, you will do more harm than good - frisk of fluid build up in your lungs. Also, depending on your pain level, it's a good to lay on the AFFECTED side. Reason being, helps with deep breathe. which you should of been doing regularly, even if it hurts. Pneumonia sucks.

Rest, don't rush the healing process. Work on strengthening your core and take you meds.

I broke 2 ribs 2 years ago, and was out of bowling for 6 weeks (51 years old at the time).
