Something strong in oil
« on: February 26, 2017, 06:10:40 PM »
So I recently got a No Rules Pearl and absolutely love it. However, one of the houses near me is always a heavy oil shot and my NRP just doesn't drive through it. I thought about getting some of the polish knocked off of it but it works so well everywhere else that I don't want to mess with it for one house.

I'm looking to add to my arsenal a solid ball that works great in oil. Obviously my first choice would be the solid no rules but I'm not trying to drop the heavy cash on a place I don't bowl at as often. I was looking at possibly the haywire or maybe waiting on the dare devil trick but I'm open to other ideas. The pro shop I go to only carries storm, roto grip, Columbia and hammer so preferably would like to keep it within those brands. I'm preferential to roto grip but at the same time, they aren't paying me to use them haha

Disregarding the top/priciest line of balls for each brand I think you can eliminate Columbia 300 as an option. The Impulse, Sideswipe Solid, and Sideswipe aren't going to be factors for oil heavy enough that a No Rules Pearl doesn't react well.

Hammer has the Dark Legend Solid although I'm not sure how much less that costs in relation to the Scandal and Gauntlet. The Rebel Solid is a nice ball but probably not strong enough for what's needed.

For Storm you're looking at the Phaze II. Maybe the Torrent or Rocket Ship too, but neither of those are as strong.

You're on the right track with the Haywire or Dare Devil Trick for Roto Grip. I'd probably wait for the latter out of those two but it's going to be interesting to see how it compares to the Phaze II.

According to the results as seen on TV today, learn to bowl "two-handed",in two shows no one else had a chance. The game as we know it is gone. It's not about accuracy, it's all about "carry".

Stop. Just stop. It's been about carry well before two handers hit the scene.

Yeah...I stopped giving a "4 letter explative"  about 2 handers in my area...Ya know the ones that actually affect me...

There's never enough oil for em.  I got a kid that is just plain amazing in side pots against me...He simply just can't score or carry. I might care if I was on a heavier volume....But I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

One or two hands, you still need to be accurate. Two hands tends to help with accuracy because there's way less back swing to stay on line with. Plus two hands tends to split the weight of the ball so there's more control on the shorter back swing. It's still hard to do, or else everyone would be doing it. Still gotta be able to have a clean release and hit your marks. Ive got a very old school approach and like to play a nice stroke between 5-10 but if my son came to me wanting to bowl two hands I wouldn't say no

Prior to yesterday's shows, EJ Tackett was being touted as the hottest player on the planet and the last time I checked he throws one handed.
If anyone thinks in today's game only 2 handed players win, then learn how to do it and prove yourself.

Yeah... The sport has been about carry ever since someone set up sticks to knock down. No style points, folks.

Hammer Scandal or Gauntlet
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:

I would still suggest the No Rules solid. I understand you do not want to spend high end money on a ball that rarely gets used, but that is probably your safest bet. You like the pearl version, and they have the same core. Instead of starting all over, new cover and core that you may not like, just get the No Rules solid.

Coor nailed it. Phaze II or Dare Devil Trick would be my thoughts if you don't want to drop the extra cash on the No Rules Solid.
