Topping the ball

What causes a person to come over the top of release.

Failing to keep your hand "behind the ball" and turning the ball too soon. There are probably other reasons, but turning the ball too early is one of them.

"flying elbow" is a good sign of it, and the old drill of putting a towel under your armpit and trying not to let it fall out is still a good drill to combat the issue

Will an ball is to light also contribute to it   I do it lest with an 16 pound than with an 15.
