USBC Sanction Fees
« on: July 17, 2005, 08:59:42 AM »
Anyone know how much the sanction fees will be for the upcoming season?? I've heard the same to as much as $22.00. All three of my leagues are talking about NOT sactioning if the mew ball rules are approved and the fee goes up.

I just recieved the new rule book. Here are the numbers.

USBC $8 (same as last year)
Max State  $1
Max Local  $10
_______________
Total Max  $19

If it goes up from last year, it is because your local or state takes advantage and raises your fees. National has not been changed and I believe that is one area that still requires delegate approval.

Since the USBC seems to want to turn the bowling world on it's ear by;
1)Increasing fees
2)Hassling ball manufacturers
3)*Trying to restore integrity to the game

* By whom and according to whom? Oldtimers who remember back in the good ole days when a 200 avg was really deuce? Because you had to be really accurate and be a great spare shooter? HELLLO, doesn't that still apply today? High-tech bowling balls or not you still need to line up and be accurate and know how to adjust to tracked out lanes and carrydown, do you not? Let me see oldtimers, I bet you'd like to take set bowling back 30 years or so wouldn't you? Even with the declining interest in our sport. Bet you'd like to see manhattan and jubileer balls up and down the lanes, right? Oh yeah, all that hard rubber just like back in the day.

Well you know what? This ain't back in the day anymore, this is 2005 and we now have high-tech bowling balls and thats the name of the game. YOU NEED to change and evolve with the sport, if you can't hang with this fast train then get the hell off. I mean, would it make you feel better if we took out the automatic scoring and brought back manual scoring? Yeah, then we can tip the scorekeeper too if we win a side pot. And while we're at it, we'll use manual pinsetters too, might not get out until 1:30 am after starting a 9:00 pm league, but that's all right, we'll be going back to the stoneages, just like the old duffers want it.

Bowlers, we do not need the USBC, they need our dollars and we will not let them dictate to us how the sport should be played. I am going to talk with the general manager at a house who I happen to bowl on the same team with about not sanctioning if the USBC does not stop it's utter stupidity. We as bowlers, can pay money to the house as far as honor score awards go. The house/league will then award the bowler independently of the USBC. Let's say joe bowler tosses a 300 game, league/house would then award him a 300 ring for his accomplishment, or for any other award for that matter. It's the pride of accomplishment that matters most, NOT because it came from some politically driven governing body like the USBC. I truly hope they become extinct due to their arrogance and out of touch thought processes.

Hey bowlers, let's just do what we love to do. B-O-W-L

One last note to the USBC if they have a rep lurking here: KISS

Pagnouch, if yours went up. Look no further than your local association and maybe your state. USBC (ABC) has been $8 for several years. The locals were limited to the same amount last I had heard, but somehow they got an increase. They do not have to take it, but if the local membership has dropped a lot they may have decided they need it. Here in Dallas we pay $16 and I have not been asked to vote on an increase. Our state does not charge a fee, the tournament covers there costs, this year we had over 900 teams.

The national fee will most likely come up for a vote next year. I would expect to see a proposal to increase the maximum to $25, with most of that National. The awards program is not free and they have again increased the number of awards that are available. The adult and youth program are now the same and there are patches and awards for games and series starting with 50 averages and going up from there. Not defending them, but how many national associations have membership fees as low as ours. Ever got your kids in a youth sport? I have heard some outragous numbers from those groups when friends have talked about the costs.

I dont mind paying a few extra bucks to the USBC, but they need to cut back on the awards. Honestly, who really wants the 700 patches and 275 game award junk? I could care less. Just give me my awards for honor scores and keep fees down by not buying 100,000 patches.

I don't think $8.00 is much to pay, but with all the members, that's a pretty nice chunk of change, what is starting to chap my *** is the state and local, here, that equals the USBC. I don't see where that money goes.

I know, that's a local/state problem, but if our area is doing that, could your area be next ? What all that money goes for, I'm not sure. There's a local meeting in 2 weeks, you bet, that'll be on my "questions to ask" list.

Would be nice to have awards just for trure honor scores:
300, 299, 298, 11 in a row plaque, 800, 900 series, and keep the patches also for the 7-10 split and Big 4 conversion as well.

All other awards, such as 600/700 series patch, 200/225/250/275 games and so on should be optional or only go to first time winners (170 avg bowls his/her first ever 600 series). Otherwise if the one who avgs 200 and has 7 700 series patches at home, if you want the 8th one, buy it (or pay a buck towards it). This would keep costs down for the USBC, also costing bowlers less in annual fees. Mayb the USBC should be more concerned with the money going out towards all the awards a year, instead of regulating ball specs and lane conditions so much. Limit the awards, save the money there, and not keep all the awards there and charge bowlers more to bowl on a flat oil pattern with low diff balls drilled with an inch of the cg and no weight hole...

If I read the awards page on bowl.com correctly, the only bowlers eligible for the 700 patch this coming season will be those with averages 210 or less.
