Learning to Drill?
« on: August 05, 2013, 04:53:31 AM »
So, where I live there isn't "that guy" everyone flocks to for equipment.  There is an okay guy (older) about an hour away and u use the guy from where I grew up about 3 hours away.  I kind of had a thought about learning to drill myself and maybe try and get a shop, even if it is a part time gig.
Any suggestions on research material or other useful info to help me with this thought would be great

Companies like Innovative, Kegel, Jayhawk, Ebonite, and IBPSIA offer pro shop training classes.  If you could get your hands on one the class manuals that would be a good start.

Keep in mind, the actual drilling of holes in the ball is probably the easiest part of running a pro shop to learn.  As long a you have a grasp of how the jig moves in relation to pitch and can read a ruler, you could be putting holes in a ball in an hour.  Ball dynamics and fitting are a different story.  And dealing with some customers makes ball dynamics seem simple.
