This doesn't directly answer your question, but a friend of mine is older and his fingers don't bend so well anymore. His balls are drilled with the fingers having the pitch adjusted to allow for less flexibility. I think his insets have to be trimmed a little to sit flush with the top of the ball

If your fingers are "stiff", then many women will be happier ....

No, really, if they are stiff, as they can get when we get older or when arthritis strikes, it's the pitch that usually needs to be adjusted. I do not believe inserts affect this. You can use them or not as your preference dictates. My friend has as much as 3/4" reverse in one finger and he is younger than I am. I still use 0 reverse when I can bowl.

Your span and pitches should always reflect your hand's physical make-up: bones, tendons, ligaments, skin.

I have major arthritis issues from cracking my knuckles thru the years. My finger pitches have been as much as 5/8 and 3/4 reverse. Reverse pitch won't cause an insert issue, but SIDE sure does. My ring finger is 15/16 left (left handed) and all my inserts have to be trimmed. Truthfully, it's not that major a deal, but took a little bit of time to adjust to. I wouldn't go without inserts as I believe they aid my ability to grip properly. The major issue is that with that much side pitch I come around the ball way too easily... Constant battle...

It was suggested when I had my hand re-checked to use 3/4 and 5/8 rev in fingers don't know how it will feel tried without inserts and felt ok that was two years ago was given an ball with lot of rev felt a little slippery.

Don't forget, depending on the difference between your current pitches and the new ones, you will probably also have to adjust the span, but the driller should know that.

I'm only 37, and have had reverse in my fingers for 20 years. Properly done, it will allow you to "rev" it more since your hand is coming out of it properly. Revs also come from good hand position at the bottom of the swing, and leverage with the legs. Match the pitches with what your hand needs, work on other fundamentals to get more revs/speed/whatever else you desire.

Charlest I remember now the span was short when I tried it with inserts compared to what was used without. It's been about 20 years since the Brunswick rep at National drilled me a ball with what been suggested lately if I remember correctly the numbers mirror each other only I did not inserts back then

I assume you've had your hand measured sometime in the past 20 years. That's a long time and everyone's hand changes over time especially that of a regular bowler.

I have not been an regular bowler for the last 4 years I bowl one league and maybe if possible practice couple days just a few hours ago measured an ball that I bought 2 years ago that rolls the best for me the span checks out (5 1/8 -5 3/16) it has vacuum grips with only 1/8 rev in the fingers instead of 3/4 I have been throwing spans that's 1/4 inch too short is what I've been told(4 7/8-5) and by the measurements on my favorite ball it's seems to be true.
