Wish me luck
« on: December 10, 2008, 08:16:05 AM »
Going back to league for the first time
tonight after shoulder surgery in Sept.
Don't know if I will bowl league or just
practice after league.  A very bright
day for me.

Just make sure that you enjoy yourself. Throw a strike for me, too.

Rotator ??? Take your time only bowl a game or two and dont over do your back swing. I have three bowler friends on 2-3 operations now from over doing it, so just take your time and all will be fun.

I had a three inch tear in my labrum.
It is called a SLAP tear.  They put
three metal anchors into the bones
and tied the labrum down.  I will
probably just throw a few balls after
league.

i had 4 on my right (bowling) shoulder, the 1st 3 were done by the same surgeon, since i had torn tendons and bone spurs, they're supposed to grind the spurs down, out a screw in the shoulder bone, tie the tendons to the screw and countersink it so the tendons grow back onto the bone, thru 3 surgeries, he forgot to countersink the screw, hence one year of rehab was killing me because the screw that was left sticking out about 1/4" was actually tearing more tendons. after the 12 months of he!!, he sent me to a specialist who found the problem and fixed it in 45 minutes. my suggestion would be, go very slow with a short and deliberate release. you're going to feel like a 90 yr. old man and look like one too. who cares, better to side on safety, i dropped to 14# stuff instead of 15#, averaged 210 this past summer. after awhile you'll get more comfortable and your swing will come back, every surgery and recoup time is different. listen to your body, if it hurts, stop immediately. sometimes it'll hurt, then get better, you're probably going to be stiff the next day because you're going to be breaking up scar tissue, check with your therapist 1st and make sure it's good with her, mine actually said it was good rehab because it'll stretch things out a little at a time. my main suggestion, don't hurry! i know you want to, but the old saying is true," haste makes waste". you don't want to waste any more time. good luck, you'll be okay.
