Artic sniper or rebel tank ?

Ok, ballreview members...   thinking of retiring my roto spare tire and was thinking of replacing  it with a rebel tank.   Thought I can use it as a duel purpose.  Burn lane and spares.   Or go artic sniper?    What do most of  you do?   Oh by the way I can flatten the ball out ten pin .

Since you can flatten the ball out, go with the Rebel Tank.  The Rebel Tank would allow you to shoot spares easily with it while still having enough cover/core to use it on the desert.  Perfect example during the Summer Swing last year was Ronnie Russell using it multiple times on the 32 ft Wolf Pattern and he wasn't running into the ball overreacting nearly as much as others.

If you were only using the the spare tire to throw at corners (or the 6-10, 9, etc.) then you would probably be fine with getting a Rebel Tank and flattening it out. If you used it shoot other, more complicated (relatively at least) stuff then the Arctic Sniper would be better since it reacts much more closely to the general plastic ball.

But feel plays a huge part in it and that's totally an individual case-by-case basis. Personally I still like using a plastic ball and the angles (close to none or slight) I can achieve with it better than flattening out a urethane or resin ball. Others I know are want the extra spot in their bag for another strike ball so they're fine with throwing whatever at spares. Like jkirkerx said, pure preference.

It had a probably with chipping. Probably why they replaced it with the Artic Sniper having a pearl urethane cover instead of plastic cover.

I have both the Artic Sniper and the Rebel Tank. I use the Artic Sniper for spares, even when I am using the Rebel Tank for a first ball. My Rebel Tank has a 2000 grit finish, so it hooks more than I want for a spare ball.

Well, a pearl urethane will hook more then a plastic ball. I missed too many 10 pins with the Arctic Sniper when at the last second it broke left just enough to miss. I went back to my AMF plastic ball and I rarely miss a 10 pin, again. It stays straight.

I agree, my Arctic Sniper is probably 3 or more boards stronger than the original Sniper.

I went for some practice after work yesterday. I only used my Rebel Tank and Arctic Sniper. On the same conditions, my Rebel Tank covers 3 to 4 boards more than the Arctic Sniper.

For this reason I am getting my son a plastic spare ball.  I've seen too many misses to the left with the arctic sniper when it hooks away late.  This is usually on dry lanes or late in tournaments.  However he has also used the Arctic Sniper with excellent result on burned up lanes as a strike ball.

I agree. That is why I am keeping my Arctic Sniper. It's just too strong a ball for me for 10 pin spares.
