Best Motiv dry ball
« on: May 23, 2015, 07:55:31 PM »
What is the best Motiv ball for dry lanes?  Is there anything truly weak that won't jump hard off the dry?  Is the rebel tank going to be this ball?
375 RPM, 17-18 MPH, 45+ DEG AXIS ROTATION, 17 DEG TILT

The Tag is to strong for dry unless you really shine it up.

I left mine at oob finish, adjust hand position and I´m good to go with it, thats why I said ball is so versatile, drilled it cg in palm and pin was drilled out in my ring finger

Adjusting hand is you being versatile not just the ball. Most people either don't do that or don't want to.

I think Motiv's only true dry lane balls would be the original Ascents or the Tanks.

For me, the Apex was a medium oil ball cover too strong for the dry stuff

Adjusting hand position does not make ball versatile just makes bowler versatile. I can play flat with the tag and get it to play straight of course I know that but I didn't get the ball so i can play flat handed I could just use any other ball break wrist flat cupped blah blah.

My TAG in oob finish was so bright and shiney that a person cold have used it for a mirror to comb their hair. I didn't move for me well at all, so I adjusted the surface to 2000 grit and no polish and it did good. Also pretty good at 4000 grit and no polish. Worse at 500 grit and polish, so moving back to 2000 grit and no polish where it seemed to perform best for me as I don't have much hand and have lower revs than many of you guys.

Rebel tank all day long.  Dry lanes is what is was DESIGNED FOR.  The Tag is more for light to medium which is not a true dry lane ball.

Dry lanes is a bad way to ask because it means different things to different people. Do you want something for short oil? Low volume? Or burned up conditions because that could be different balls.
I see the Rebel Tank being a short oil ball but not a "burned" condition ball. There I would want something very clean with a lot of recovery. On a low volume shot I would want something cleaner and smoother.  Just my opinion

So what is the best bet on low volume or burnt? The Ascent?

I would also ask what are you stepping down from?  You could get different suggestions depending on the strength of ball you are initially using.  So what is your weakest ball or what is the ball you are stepping down from?

Also, how comfortable are you moving in deep versus just going weaker and weaker in ball strength and trying to stay direct and outside?
