MOTIV Forza Video
« on: October 31, 2014, 06:50:47 AM »
Feedback appreciated!

Description: The Forza is an all new ball, in every way. The inside consists of the new Torx Core, while the outside consists of the new solid Helix Coverstock. The Forza also adds for the first time the all new MOTIV Badge logo, which gives it great shelf appeal.

Reaction: With any new release there is a lot of anticipation like what does it do and does it do what it’s supposed to do? It’s very simple the Forza provides predictability and versatility. It gets into an early heavy roll and has great continuation. This ball provides continuation through the pins that you just don’t see when you hear a ball is going to be “Smoother”. My first layout (60X5.5X35) was straighter through the front and a controlled change in direction once it hits friction, with good continuation. My second layout (45X5X65) was sooner in the front and middle part of the lane with a very strong arcing motion, allowing it to be very continuous. So far, on multiple patterns I have liked the second layout better, it really allows the ball to stand out and do what it’s intended to do.

Comparisons: The Forza is well complimented with other balls in production by MOTIV. To start, the Venom Shock is cleaner and responds to friction just a little faster, giving it less overall hook potential. Next, the Sigma Sting provides a cleaner and stronger motion downlane, with a close hook potential. Finally, the Tribal Fire is much cleaner and has a much faster response to friction but, less hook potential.

Summary: This release is great for several reasons…A lot of times house patterns present a very wet/dry condition that tends to either make it look more difficult than it really is or carry is just brutal. This ball has looked really good on what people refer to as a typical house shot because of how well it blends patterns. In addition because of the shape and continuation this ball creates I have already found it useful on several lengths of more challenging patterns. #Overdrive

Good video and explanations with the dialog boxes. Personally I liked layout #2 over layout #1.

Thanks guys, I will continue to do the dialogue boxes, seems people are finding them useful as opposed to just trying to see differences.

Really good vid. I too like the dialog boxes.

Some comments:
Might be good to add a dialog box with the pattern info. Maybe if possible get a few more details on the pattern, like length, maybe volume. Just to give everyone from the causal viewer to more experienced bowler the most information

Liked the comparison to other balls, maybe if possible, add a second shot where you overlay the current reviewed ball with the older balls or show the actual lines of where the balls were thrown together on one shot, so you can get a good side by side comparison. Or if that isn't possible ( as I know not everyone has the software capable of this) maybe add a second shot with the older balls throwing the same line as the current one, so we can see the difference at the backend, show it leaving a washout, or pciking 3 off the right, etc.

Lastly, in the attempt to please everyone. Maybe, if possible add a few shots on something other than THS. THS tends to make all the balls look similar. On a sports pattern, we could really see the difference between them and highlight the current ball.

One of the better vids I have seen though.

1.Pattern length and volume will be added to the next video.
2.Tracer lines will also be shown on next video of the balls being compared to one another.
3.I can possibly also throw in a few shots (Keeping under 3 minutes) on something more challenging.

Thanks for the input. Quality of video will also improve next time as I will be using the best GoPro camera available.

So what are some opinions on what challenging patterns to use? Patterns conducive for the ball or the same challenging pattern for each release?

I agree it can get old and balls react on THS can look too similar sometimes...

It would seem better to show how the ball fits in the arsenal and where the ball would be used.  Showing a ball on a condition it wasn't intended may lead some bowlers into making the wrong decision when picking out a ball; especially since a lot of videos only show strikes.

I have always felt this release was better suited to flatter patterns instead of THS.  Showing how the Forza excels on this type of pattern is what would sell me personally on it.

I agree.  Most useful is how the ball being reviewed fits in the Motiv lineup - confirm what the ball guide shows or maybe it fits slightly different than the ball guide shows.

Then a pattern that the ball excels on - or how it works best on that pattern.

Thanks!

Since I was the one who brought this up let me add:

I agree with the other posters. Use a challenge pattern that the ball would suited to, so it should change with each release. For the lineup question, show maybe a ball above and/or a ball below it and show the difference in lines on that pattern. It will sell the current ball without diminishing the other balls as well.

So...because I want the patterns to be useful, would you rather see PBA patterns or Kegel patterns?

I don't think it has to be a specific "named" pattern.  Just some information about the selected pattern such as 3:1 ratio 35 feet.  If you say you are using the ball on Cheetah, then people may think it works on Cheetah but not Boardwalk.

If you were to go the named route, don't forget WTBA patterns also.  I know a lot of people use those since they are free downloads like the Kegel patterns (and are located at the same place).

After further review, I am not sure WTBA is still using the Olympic City names for patterns.  But you get the drift.
