My Motiv gear is back in play
ę on: April 21, 2018, 06:12:19 PM Ľ
So my house changed the shot and it looks like itís going to hang around for awhile now. I think itís 20% less volume and a new degreaser to clean the backends and there sqeeky clean now. So now the backends get faster and faster now even with the reoil before league play. The last change made my Motiv gear obsolete so I drilled up Rotogrip and Storm gear.

After my bad experience last Monday, I decided to put the Motiv gear back in play. Worked just fine today, but instead of a house shot we had Scorpian.

So Iíll gonna roll out some of the older balls, Trident, Revolt Havoc, Octane Carbon and maybe the Cobra this Monday. They should carry good. Excited about using the Revolt Havoc although I never really liked it. For me it rolls like a Urethane making one change of direction.

And as the mystery ball goes, an old Crux Pearl with a ton of games on it. Itís. It dead after all.

I have 23 bowling balls at the moment, mostly Motiv, Storm/Rotogrip

Under the right conditions, MOTIV balls work great. Wishing you all the best, as some of your past posts about the Motive Carbon helped me make up my mind and purchased same. Love the ball. Good luck and bowl well.  :)
My In the Bag 3 ball carrier:
Motiv Octane, Carbon (1st)
Radical Cyclops Pearl (1st or 2nd)
HyRoad (2st or 3rd)
Brunswick EDGE Pearl (on the way)
(balls are quite similar but work on the conditions that are presented @ my house)
In Alley Locker:
Wrecker sanded to 3000 grit
Lane1 Chainsaw : 2Fast.

Oh thanks!
I like the Carbon, took some time to figure it out and it hasnít let me down yet.

I was bummed when they changed the pattern and double oiled it. I made a large investment in Motiv and it was all drilled weak except for the Jackals. But I saved  them figuring they will come back into play one day.

Motiv makes good balls, itís just a matter of knowing which ones will work for you when and how to use them. If it today hen maybe later.

Covert Thoughts about the Jackal Carnage:
I secretly kept my Jackal Carnage and used it for training and unsactioned events. That Carnage is a really nice ball and pretty strong as well, but a little too agressive on the back end. I sanded mine down to 500 to use on a fresh Shark pattern and it plays very consistent while not losing any continuation before the pocket. It just keeps on driving left and thatís playing a tight line up the middle. Iím still curious if mine is really over illegal.  I didnít want to alter the surface on my Ghost amd LE so I used the Carnage instead. After about 50 games on it, hasnít darken in color or lane shined yet like the LE. I really like that generation of cover formula over the newer stuff because itís more durable yet effective. But Iím surprised that even at 500 the motion is still there. Iím tempted to use this at the Orleans next Sep for sweeps. But the biggest surprise is that not a single person called me out on the ball and has forgotten about it being illegal. Itís clear to me that people have forgotten about it and what it looked like.

If your tournament is not sanctioned, you can use it.

So they had to lower the volume for the Trident to come into play? Interesting, could you elaborate as I'm eyeing that ball as a future pick up.

Itís really a problem with the oil machine and poor maintenance, plus the league volume tripling.

About 12 months ago, the house changed conditioners, and put the same volume out, say 20 units. Then they went back and oiled over the oil for night leagues with another 20 units. This particular conditioner really pushed down the lane farther, and even farther after the re oil.

After 3 years of buying Motiv balls, I drilled them all really weak to conserve energy for drier lanes or really older formulations of conditioners that didnít last as long. I also didnít have the level of finesse required to get the ball to the pocket, without going too long and Angular or face up too early.

So I drilled most of my new Storm Roto gear on the very strong side and problem solved, made some money and rolled good scores

Now I think the jets are just sort of clogged in the oil machine and the volume is about 20% less, say 16 units, and maybe 10 units on the re oil. Itís just a guess.

I rolled my Forza GT recently and it was money. Same with the Trident and Havoc, Primal Rage, Fear, Remix. My Motiv gear works just as good as the day I bought it.

On a side note:
I repurposed my Primal Remix, Jackal Carnage, Trident for sport shot league. I have the Remix down to 500 grit no polish, it works really good on long patterns like New Scorpian. Trident down to 1000 no polish, works great on short patterns like new Viper. Carnage at 500 for short patterns up the middle.

That should give you some good intel.

Sure hope you don't use that Carnage in a sanctioned league.

The sport shot league is non sanctioned. Thatís why I freely admit to using it still.
There are still many non USBC events and leagues out there.
