Starting over
« on: October 03, 2015, 09:23:10 AM »
Dropped down to 14lb equipment this year, so I decided to try Motiv stuff. Picked up a Forza[drilled pin by ring finger, cg kicked slightly right], and a Redline[same general drilling, just pin 1 1/2" higher, cg straight down]. Like the reactions, Forza a little earlier-smoother, Redline a little longer-stronger off the breakpoint. Not a lot of difference in total hook, but different motions. Will get a stronger ball later, but my need now is a weaker ball[or two] for when the lanes dry down. Don't have the hand to carry anymore when I have to start targeting 20 at the arrows, so a ball with a smoother reaction maybe the answer. I am afraid a Tag drilled to take advantage of it's strengths will be really close to the Redline, longer and stronger. Maybe a  Tag or a Shock[with less surface] with something like a pin in palm drilling to smooth them out? Do I drop down to the Accent line, or even a Rebel tank? Have medium ball speed, 15mph or so at the pins with 250? rpms or so. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Motiv seems to regard the Shock as the normal step down from the Forza and the Panic a step down from the Redline. I can sometimes use the Shock on medium-light to as much as medium oil. The more oil my Shock sees the less flippy it is, still at the stock 4000 grit surface. If it doesn't see enough oil, it can have a pretty sharp backend, which surprised me, its being a dull solid and all.

I have both the Venom Shock pin in ring (4.25" pin to PAP) OOB and the Graffiti Tag 4000 pin over ring (4.75" pin to PAP).  My stats are in  profile.

IMO I would not drill either ball ultra smooth in that you have a lower rev rate.....but you also did not say what your tilt and axis rotation are?  If you can't get the balls to hit inside that means you'd want stronger layouts not lessor.

The Venom Shock OOB 4000 with it's lower Rg will tend to be smooth roll ball motion where the Graffiti Tag will be longer and snap a bit more but taking it down to 4000 from 5500LSS will take some of that over snap or over reaction when it reads the mids and backend.  I would say both balls are more for slight inside play and trajectories if you are not comfortable there then stepping down further is a possibility but it will also take away somewhat from carry power or ringing 10's in that the heads if you are a righty maybe broken down and you may need to stay further inside to get some skid with the ball you choose.  So, part if it is lane play and part your bowling technique.

Don't overlook the Rebel Tank. It is my go to ball when lanes get tough. If you can play a down and in shot with some speed it carries the world.
