Too many Motiv balls ?
« on: July 23, 2015, 03:40:42 PM »
I'm only throwing Motiv now.  I ended up with more balls than I had before I switched.  I'm thinking that I don't need two of these. But when I look at it all of the balls really kind of fit.  Tell me what to get rid of or convince me I need all of these.

Raptor Talon - Rico - Sanded 500 Grit for flood
Primal Rage -  5" pin to PAP above fingers- Not as angular as I would like. Need to add a weight hole
Covert Revolt - Leverage pin down. - Smooth early rolling
Sigma Sting -  4" pin to pap . pin in ring. Benchmark ball
Venom Shock- leverage pin down- smoother benchmark.  Step down from Covert
Octane -  5" pin to PAP above fingers - polished to get through heads- most angular ball I have for deep inside.
Graffiti Tag - 5" pin to PAP above fingers - ball doesn't really do much
Ascent Pearl- polished - for dry
Rebel Tank -  pin at center grip. polished smooth hook on dry
Arctic Sniper- spare ball

375 RPM, 17-18 MPH, 45+ DEG AXIS ROTATION, 17 DEG TILT

I can't speak for all of the balls in your list, but below is my experience of the balls I do have....

Best ball in your list  :)

Octane -  5" pin to PAP above fingers - polished to get through heads- most angular ball I have for deep inside.
I have one and wouldn't buy it again  :(

Graffiti Tag - 5" pin to PAP above fingers - ball doesn't really do much
I have one and gotta agree with you there  :)

Not a lot of love for the Tag. Amazes me because the ball has been money for me!  Both I have drilled are excellent, with surface and polish. The only thing I see common with people who don't like it is 5 inch to pap or longer.

My Tag is 3 1/2 to PAP but still don't like it very well.

How is yours drilled? I was thinking of popping a flare increasing hole in it to see what it did.

I'm surprised Motiv has had the Octane on the v active ball list as long as they have. I know 2 1/2 people that like it.. And I'm the 1/2

His drillings are in his post just a couple or so postsabove this one.

I am thinking that one has the pin under fingers and the other is over fingers with his favorite of the two being the one with pin under the fingers, but I could be wrong there.

The 33/4pin to pap pin under(4000)  is great on my fresh heavier ths and the 43/4 pin over 500/4000 polished is great on my light ths or when the first ths breaks down. I can say I don't like any of Motivs ob surfaces. They always seem over under for me, and I mean all of them. So I hit with a pad to what surfaceS work for me on the conditions I want them on and have had much better luck with all of their releases I have.

I also have p3 holes in both also.

Anyone actually want to post their actual stats. (mine are in my profile) on their posts to know what you are about and also the lane condition you are rolling on?  Speed needs to be stated as off hand or on backend.

I believe folks get to wrapped up in what ball works for them when they aren't even in the same ball park as the next poster.   To compare apples to apples we would need stats. and what lane condition you even think you are bowling on.  Bowlers that bowl 5 man leagues at say 39' THS wet/dry THS wall 225 revs 19.5 mph off hand can't compare to a bowler than bowls a 3 person league on 42' blended 400 recv 17 mph off hand.

Good for you vkowalski1970.  And it's not just this post but all posts trying compare ball to ball and poster to poster.  I know what can work for me so I work that out with my driller not posters on an internet forum.  :)

BTW....vkowalski1970 I am going drill a Tag soon (inside use not down and in) for later on burnt conditions not for fresh as that is what my Shock is for light-medium.

Here's one guy that likes his Tag and says good things about what he saw.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_AEtV9Yo4c

I didn't care for my Primal rage but I just put a double thumb weight hole in it and I think I turned it into the ball it is supposed to be.  The ball actually reads the lane and makes a strong move to the pocket.  Just on the edge of being what I would call angular.  Before it didn't really do much on the backend.  It is a night and day difference between how it was before.
