She may not have the most versatile style or most powerful game, but I have to admit she gets the job done.  Gotta give her kudos for that!

Well......she's always "up there" in the standings...she's doing something right. Not always the same condition all weeks...she was playing WAY inside at the US Open......

After watching Cheryl and Wendy take turns missing the 10 pin (should I miss it left or right this time?), it occurred to me that you'll never see Carolyn miss a 10 pin, or any other single pin, for that matter.

Carolyn gets bashed because she doesn't throw much ball, and she seems to get a lot of light swishers, which makes you think that she's just lucky.  But she gets them all the time, so it's more than luck.

I would rather watch Cheryl Daniels or Kelly Kulick or Anne-Marie Duggan throw the ball, but there's no denying that Carolyn has what it takes to be a winner, including the best mental game on the planet.

Is it just me, or does Carolyn's right foot look like it slips during her approach.  Almost looks like an ice skater sometimes.  The only gripe I have is how often she throws the 5 rev, rolled out 15' in front of the headpin, barely nick the headpin, cave in the leftside, strike.  Don't know how she does it.  Like Seadrive said, she must be doing something right.

Strider - My dad does the same thing.  He likes seeing the ball die just before the pocket.  He uses a strong ball that starts to hook at the arrows.  It rolls out just before the pocket and carries the light hits just about all the time.  He gets into trouble when he comes in too high then he gets the splits.  He is now bowling with a 12 lb ball but is very accurate and still carries a 190 average.  This was after having a triple bypass.  He used to throw 16 lb the same way.

12# ball and a 190 average, wow!

I've seen a lot of people plan for roll out right before the pocket, but her's looks dead far too early and hits too light.  Her ball finished right of the 9 pin quite often.  But, who's to argue with success?

Does anyone know what ball Carolyn was using in the
Cincinnati open? I looked through the Ebonite site
but the pictures are too dark to tell anything.
Why is it so hard to find this information out?
It appears to be a blue violet color with a large
white logo.       GS

Thank you Jeffrevs,   I went back and looked at the tape
again, and knowing what to look for recognized the logo.
I guess the TV lights make the balls look lighter than they are.
Thats a heavy oil ball, very low RG, but seemed to match up
for her. Surprised she was able to beat Liz on her favorite
line. Any way I am going to start paying more attention to
the balls being thrown, tells you alot about the lanes the
women are playing.      GS

carolyn dorin-ballard is a lot more versatile than many people give her credit for. as someone else mentioned she always seems to find a way to get there---that's what matters. that shot she was throwing---the down and in shot from the outside, that's my "a" game. i think it's great to see it work on tv.
