Entry of Angle?!?
« on: July 07, 2003, 03:47:08 AM »
Having heard both CD_s speak this phrase, am I the only one that thinks they are morons for saying it backwards (as opposed to Angle of Entry)?  Or am I the moron and they are saying it correctly?

I am absolutely positive that I heard CDB say "entry of angle" once this past Sunday and the other CD say it twice last week.

I wish I had not deleted the show from my TiVo already so that I could double-check.

I've heard it said every time I've watched the show. Entry of Angle.

It turns out that I did not delete this weeks show.  I just re-watched the last two matches and CDB says it while talking about Cara immediately prior to Cara's first shot in the tenth.

So, the question remains, is this phrase just flat out wrong?

And if so, where does that leave CDB's knowledge of the game if she can make that kind of error not once, but multiple times?

Sorry if I sound like I am harping on this so hard, but if the best that women's bowling has to offer speaks "bowling-ease" this poorly, what are the other PWBA members like?

CDB seems like a great person, however, I personally thing there needs to be some improvement there......

for instance,.....

If they say SURFACE one for friggin' time on the PWBA show, I'm going to freak!

And....here's a good idea, why don't you tell us a little more about the oil pattern and /or what the oil information means when they announce it during the first game!  They may as well be speaking Chinese (no offense)!

Is it just me ?

No Jeff I thought the same thing.  You tell us you are the first tour to use prodigy oil cause it is still in the experimental stage.  I am going wow that is great.  What the hell is prodigy oil.  Do they tell me no.  They go on to talking about shout outs to peoples moms.  What was up with the pattern not being symetrical.  Jan schmidt even opened the can of worms and the freaking answer was they are playing with the shot a little or something like that.  It drives me nuts.  I met a lot of the women the last time they had a tour stop at my home center.  They are so genuine and nice with knowledge you wouldn't believe.  Why are they so handcuffed on tv.  Inform us that is your job.

Entry of Angle (terrible grammar)
Plastic Ball

Should all be on the "only able to say once per telecast" list. With "Entry of Angle" being on the "I not sound so smart so I won't say it" list. It's a simple case of verbal diarhhea, but saying it more than once is kind of ridiculous for a national telecast.

Andy, when Jan mentioned that the shot wasn't symmetrical CDB tried to give a quick explanation as to why, but unfortunatly it's just too big a topic to cover in 5 seconds. Which is all you've got when your list of shout outs & recognitions is 5 miles long.
There is a place for recognitions on the telecast. But, I feel there simply are too many in every telecast. That's what a "friends & family" portion of a website is for, to give recognition to people. Then again, I've seen very few PWBA bowlers with websites.

The sisters Dorin can be comical at times (the "entry of angle" thing makes me grind my teeth to little nubs), but I think the production quality of the show is actually better this year than in years past.  I guess that's pretty pathetic.

At least they've learned to say the words, "That was a bad shot."  Last year, every time someone didn't get a strike, they'd tell you how the lane is transitioning, and she'll have to make an adjustment.  Yeah, right.

Carolyn needs to stop bobbing her head up and down like a dashboard doll, and Cathy... well, she sure is cute!  I really wish I could have seen Jan Schmidt's face when Cathy called Kelly and Michelle "hookers".  hahahahahahaha!

Cathy's comments on making the 2-8-10 were priceless.  On one shot, she told us that you really have to hit it "perfect" to make it.  I don't know about you, but I'm still looking for that perfect spot.  Two frames later, she tells us that she's never seen it made, but she thinks a lefty might have a better shot at it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You can't make this stuff up!

Mrsrevs...I wouldn't say it was a conspiracy, but I'm not going to quibble with what you opined on the source of problem.

Personally, I feel there are players that would do really well on commentary but are not afforded that opportunity for various reasons that I should probably bite my tongue on...

The PWBA show is packaged very differently from the PBA show.  The PBA markets their show as great entertainment, something you can get pumped up about.  It's about drama and excitement.  "Only one can win", will it be Walter Ray again, or will PDW throw 3 in the clutch to snatch the victory?

As presented by Jan Schmidt, the PWBA is more about "women's issues" and presenting the ladies as athletes, than it is about entertainment.  You almost get the feeling that they don't really care if you find it entertaining, as long as they get to remind you every two minutes that the bowlers are athletes, female athletes.  Got it?  Good, but we're going to tell you again anyway.

The "shout outs" are just another symptom of the underlying problem.  Jan seems to think the show belongs to her and her friends, and she uses the air time as she sees fit.  Wishing your father and father-in-law Happy Father's Day was okay, but throwing out congrats to your husband's second-cousin-twice-removed's niece on her high school graduation is really a bit much, don't you think?

Yeah, the plastic ball thing, the oil pattern nonsense, all the broken phrases, surface, and the whole athletes thing is getting REALLY annoying.  Especially when they all hook their plastic ball and then we hear "It's all the excess OIL in the middle of a SPORT PATTERN that caused them to miss the 10."  Bullstuff.  If they'd throw it STRAIGHT, WENDY, they might pick more of them up.  Nobody knew what offense and defense oil was to begin with, so prodigy just means less than nothing.  Pattern length is about the only thing I can relate to, I still don't know what volume of oil means, they all look like they have head oil out the donkey and enough backend to make JLo jealous.  Then CDB says "It's a symmetrical pattern . ."  "Um, no it's not . . ." says Jan.  And that's about all she wrote.  Surface, what, are we in a submarine?  Get a clue.  Athletes?  Yeah, I think Kingpin nailed that one.  "Wow, it's kinda intimidating to be in the presence of so many great athletes."

Ok *DISCLAIMER*  For all you tightwad white people that think I'm being completely serious, stick it.  Just a humorous, sarcasm laden rant about some stuff that everyone already seems to agree on.

Forget Kung Fu, I know Ron Bahr!!!

The only difference between youth and adult leagues are that the big boys are allowed to whine.  They're more entertaining anyway.

I have to agree with seadrive While every single one of those women are better bowlers than I am why does the broadcast have to be a comercial for women's rights.  It almost feels like I am sitting in on a NCAA meeting about title IX (which I have done before don't do it).  I understand women don't really get their due and and get things as good as men in MANY situations in this world.  I am not trying to say they don't, but don't keep preaching to the choir.  We are watching the show we are supporting them.

Card nailed it. I think every one of us watching can appreciate what these women are doing. Don't preach to the choir.

As I said, I dont mind a few shout outs. I understand why Dede wanted to give her condolences, and the happy anniversary was fine, but until they stop packaging the show like a local high school game, they will never find the support the need to survive.

I recently saw the little league championships on ESPN & IMHO they were more professional & better packaged than the PWBA.
