Having heard both CD_s speak this phrase, am I the only one that thinks they are morons for saying it backwards (as opposed to Angle of Entry)? Or am I the moron and they are saying it correctly?

Don't forget the phrase that Randy Pedersen's (sp?) cohort (whatever his name is) uses at lease once during every PBA show, "Sixty feet to success". I always know it's coming and it still drives me nuts. He needs some new material.

Back to CDB/CDL's commentary. I love it when they say "that was a great shot" when the bowler has just gone beak or fast eight (i.e.: left a 4-7 or 6-10 on a high hit). Sorry, but if either of those two things happen, it was NOT a great shot. Sometimes I wonder if the CDs are watching the same show that I am.

Has anyone read this months Bowling Digest?
In there, the article about the PWBA blames Title IX for the decrease in entries in PWBA events!!!!!

You gotta read it.

LOL Sr...more likely a potential fear of fines. Nobody wants to become the BigAl of the PWBA

'course if there is a demise of a particular women's tour, it would raise the interesting question of "if a fine is levied but nobody is there to collect, did the fine really hapen?"

I would say that it would not really count at that point Michelle.

Mumzie-

I must respectfully disagree with any position that would say that title IX in anyway would reduce women's participation in the women's professional tournaments. I will be attempting to look up the article you are referring too, but I must say title IX openned the doors to many sports that women would potentially not have continued to persue if they hadn't had title IX.

I think they keep drumming the "athletes" thing in to remind us. While I'm sure they are, that wouldn't be the first thing that popped into my head if I saw Tiffany or Tenelle walking down the street. I might think "Gee, what cute little butterballs" but I probably wouldn't be saying "Gee, those girls sure look like athletes." There are quite a few people I work with that sort of "spoonerize" complex (

) phrases like "entry of angle" so I hardly even hear it anymore.

Your supposed to have the sound on when watching the Telecasts??..;-))

Myself.........volume down.......cd player turned up.........

seems a very enjoyable experience.....;-)).....lol...

Think the telecasts are getting better (remember the PBA has had a couple more decades to perfect there's....).....though I think more bowling information and less "shoutouts" is definately the way to go.....

As for Title IX.........

think the ONLY argument that could be made here is ....since Title IX has opened the doors to female atheletes to compete collegiately in a much more wide variety of sports/athletics then prior to it.........that this has reduced the pool of women who would want to be bowlers. With more opportunities available, women can make more decisions on what to participate in....unlike in the past where only a handful of sports/athletics were available to them. So sort of reducing the pool of talent by opening other sports up to women...............but man that is a weak argument at best.....

Probably not the first thing you would think when you saw the US women's powerlifting champion either. Most powerlifters are "chunky" at best, yet I think no one would argue against them being athletes.

I guess it's just a matter of don't judge a book by its cover. Then again your "first reaction" also shows how warped our society is when it comes to issues dealing with weight, which is at this point the only "socially acceptable" discrimination. It's not PC to say anything about a person's age, sexual orientation, race, or gender, but it's just fine to ridicule & harass a person about how they're a "fat mother trucker".

But that's a completely different topic. Sorry about the rant.

Well, (completely off topic here), as one of the "generously proportioned", I agree. I am extremely healthy, and have an exceptional cardiovascular system (thanks, Daddy).
When I walk into a Drs office, they immediately assume high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc, just because of my weight. Raises my BP on the spot...

Don't let it raise your blood pressure Mumzie. I think it is funny. People have always looked at me and assumed me to be less than athletic. I have always been big. With my previous college football career high school athletics. Continuing to play softball and golf and bowl and lift weights I love for people to underestimate me any day of the week gives me a mental advantage everytime.

I can show you hundreds of college and nfl linemen that at 300 pounds are more agile have more strength (that is in comparison to size also) and more endurance than people half their size. They have to it is how they carry all that around and still do what they do.

I'm sorry if I've offended anybody. It was NOT my intention to do so. It IS a problem with societal expectations of what an "athlete" looks like. Yes, it is possible to be quite overweight and in great shape, but it really is more the exception than the rule. I know skinny people that are in terrible shape. 300 lb linemen ARE great athletes in pro football. Of course they're 6'5" too, and work very hard to keep themselves both strong and agile. Weight lifters, too, do not have the classic "athlete" look, but there is no doubt in my mind that they are. I'm not disagreeing with any of you, and if you took personal offense or if I've upset you, please accept my abject apology.

I have to disagree with you on this. With today's fast food lifestyle people are not eating right (lord knows that I dont), however many of those people with a spare tire & change are still physically fit enough to be athletes. Myself I've been 6'1" & 235-250 since junior year of high school. Yet I was very accomplished on both varsity tennis & Ski teams.

My point is, although people aren't eating right they still are getting exercise & performing in sports. Our culture is so focused on high fat & carb foods & getting them quickly, that you will begin to see many more "overweight athletes" in the future.

I'm in the same place as Mumzie -- I carry the extra weight, but I can out play most people in my age group (or younger) in tennis and softball. I have low BP, low cholesteral, great heart rate, high HDLs (the good cholesteral)and a strong skeletal/muscle system -- comes from years of walking 4-5 miles a day.

Sure, would I like to look trim, yeah, but I am really healthy and I am an ATHLETE!
