A little more....
« on: June 09, 2015, 10:02:17 AM »
I am going to post this in a few different brand boards. When I ended my winter league, I was loving my Hy-Road. But there were a few nights where I needed something with a little more pop. What in the Radical line would fit the bill? I am open to trying any brand to find the ball that works. I appreciate you taking the time.

Jorge,

If you are looking for something with a little more pop on the backend, I would consider taking a look at the Yeti Uncaged.  Like the Hy-Road, it is symmetrical. If that is what you go with, consider using a slightly more aggressive pin placement.  The ball goes pretty long.  I have mine drilled pin over, ring, CG in the grip center, and a MOtion hole.  Great ball.

Jorge,  I have a HyRoad and a Grease Monkey. Both have similar core dynamics and cover stocks. I find the Grease Monkey to have similar length but marginally stronger than the original HyRoad. The Grease Monkey Whack is somewhat stronger than the original Grease Monkey with a very similar roll and shot shape but, again marginally stronger than both the original Grease Monkey and the HyRoad. Each of these are excellent pieces that have a place in every league and tournament bowler's bag. When the HyRoad and Grease Monkey/Grease Monkey Whack shot shape is working, you really need to own one to keep up. If I were planning to keep the HyRoad in the bag, I'd add the Grease Monkey Whack as the step-stronger ball (as the original Grease Monkey, while marginally stronger than the HyRoad, is really close to the HyRoad). I'm of the opinion the Rocket and the Grease Monkey Whack are close in core dynamics, coverstock and overall reaction. To me, the Yeti line are closer in core dynamics, reaction and shot shape to the Marvel and Optimus lines. One bowler's perception, YMMV!

I agree 110%. The OG GM would be my suggestion for you. If it isn't a big enough gap OOB hit it with 3000 or 2000 then watch out! My OG GM was very weak OOB and I hit it with 2000 and it come to life big time! For the performance and price the Grease Monkeys are extremely hard to beat IMO.

I agree with the previous comments but they failed to mention the Radical Balls are inherently $10 to $15 less expensive. WOW that's Radical.

Thanks everyone. Thanks Phil.

Appreciate everyone taking the time. Still not sure on which way I am going to go, but the feedback was very helpful.

I would agree that the Grease Monkey Whack would be a good choice for something stronger than a Hyroad. Also, the new Radical Primo would be a good alternative if you can wait until 7/7/15. It would be a little more angular than the Grease Monkey Whack.
