RICO effect on Guru/Untamed
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:42:41 AM »
Newguy,

Was looking into some Radical products and am very interested in the Guru and Untamed. With the Scoop technology I know how much of a swing drilling the pin under does compared to pin over, but does drilling the Guru or Untamed RICO get the fingers up high enough to miss some/most of the scoop and not effect the diff as much as someone who would put the pin just under the fingers?

If you are wondering why I would RICO a Guru, its the roll I like out of the drilling. I have always stuck with the thought of find a drill or 2 that you like, drill different balls so you get a different look/different cover to help make your moves.

Any help is appreciated!

The only issue i see with Rico drill is because some bowlers will tend to track super high and can track over the fingers and/or the thumb. This happens with me. It's due to such a large VAL angle especially for bowlers with a fair or large amount of up coordinate in their PAP. I usually just raise the pin up from grip center as much as the bowler has up in their PAP and it often gets the track off the gripping holes.

Good info. Luckily I have many balls already drilled RICO and I track about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch away from the fingers and thumb. But you are correct, some may track over. If they do, placing an extra hole in the positive thumb quadrant has always raised my track enough to get the track lowered enough to get off my thumb and fingers...

Thanks again Ric!

If you move the pin too far under the fingers you would actually be drilling into the top of the core or even on the other side of the to of the core. This will lower the diff significantly.

Newguy,

And that is what I worried about with the Scoop when compared to other equipment.
Regardless, I have my first 2 non-Quantum bowling balls in a LONG time ready to be drilled at the pro shop: a Guru which I am going to stick with the suggested layout and not RICO and a Yeti Untamed which I will slap the RICO on.

Hoping for some strong rolling equipment. From what I have seen I do not believe I will be upset.

IMO, I would do exactly like you're doing with the symm getting the Rico treatment. If you were to do a Rico to any strong assym, I personally would think it would get pukey because it would have such a high intermediate diff.
