I'm curious how he cover compares to a Hyper Cell if the covers are prepped the same? Roto has discontinued the Hyper Cell and I know you can still get one but curious if a 2000 abralon Eternal Cell will be basically the same?

Short answer: No.

Hyper Cell had Microbite which translates to Storm's NRG cover, which is essentially a particle cover. Eternal is a traditional resin cover. SO.....Eternal should be cleaner through the heads with more kick on the back from the less aggressive cover.

However, I don't have an Eternal, so I cannot give you an exact side by side comparison.

I've never thrown it at box but I did hit mine with a 3000 pad and I have a great reaction. Still plenty clean and a good move off the spot.

I have yet to throw it on a sport pattern though.

So reading that response should I expect closer to the original cell with a slightly stronger cover with a 2000 Eternal? That may be interesting....

All the pros did something to theirs.... I'm surprised we can't get an insight of what belmo, beef stu, etc did to theirs. I wonder if there's a solid batch at the plant that don't have the polish added...just for the pba...

Green....I would say that would be close.

Dozer...my assumption is they just knocked off the polish on a spinner in the truck or paddock area. Heck, back in the day Schlem would knock the polish off at the edge of the approach for someone prior to games starting.

I have a teammate that uses an Eternal Cell. He liked it polished for house shots but it was too skid flippy for sport patterns. He hit it at 2000 to knock the shine off and it's more predictable off the spot.

Would an Eternal Cell sanded to 2000 or 1500 be comparable to the heavy oil balls currently on the market? Specifically the Guru Supreme, Grudge, Lock, Jackal Carnage, and Warrior Elite. It seems like it should be somewhat close but you never really know and I haven't seen anybody throw one yet in my area to get a feel for it.

It would be somewhat close. The Nucleus core is just too good and it is still a strong cover even though it's not the strongest

I think the Eternal would still be a tisk behind at least the Guru Supreme, Grudge, and Jackal Carnage. Those 3 are just SO strong (strong cores and covers). However, with those bowling balls, the shot is going to blow up quicker and make you ball down quicker. So...the Eternal may not be the strongest, but it might be the one you can use the longest.

For dense and long oil, the Carnage, Grudge, and Guru Supreme have a niche spot that others just can't beat.

Thanks for the replies. Here's another question that I've been mulling over - would an Eternal Cell be stronger than a Critical if both were at the same finish? I've seen mixed reviews regarding how strong the Critical is and again nobody in my area seems to be throwing one (Roto Grip isn't one of the more popular brands around here for some reason).

I would think that the Eternal Cell would still be stronger since Roto Grip lists it's coverstock's number as 75 (or 72 if you go by the video) and the Critical is 67 but any help with clarification would be much appreciated. I like to carry quite a bit of equipment but try not to have too much stuff that overlaps.

Good question. I don't have a Critical and have not seen one side by side with an Eternal. My assumption is the Eternal would be stronger, but not too much stronger. Critical is a great piece. Eternal is a great piece. Each has its own spot.

The Nucleus core is pretty strong though so it still has that dynamic motion. The Critical seems to get into a strong roll with a smooth yet strong motion off the spot. The cover is technically stronger because it is a MH cover.

I don't know how much stock I put into their L, M, and H (and any combination of them) designations. From what I've seen and experienced sometimes they're pretty close and others it's quite a bit off. I think the numerical portion of the coverstock name reflects their intentions for it better but who knows.

You can argue the Eternal Cell being in the HP4 line should be stronger since the Critical is in the HP3 line but I don't think that's entirely accurate either.

Anyways, I appreciate all of the responses. I have a feeling I'm going to end up choosing between the Eternal Cell, Critical, Haywire, and maybe the Menace but getting to that decision might be painful.
