Ball NPS Score: Not Available
The EPICtm adventure continues with the introduction of the SAGAtm. Defeating much of the known lane conditions at an early time, the Epic Sagatm is a personal Journey of Conquest and Victory. The Sagatm seeks its rightful rule as it fights to overthrow the competition and reign over all its enemies.

The SAGAtm is our latest release in the storied EPIC line of High Performance Asymmetrical bowling balls, the synergy of asymmetry along with hybrid coverstock technology delivers the sharpest backend reaction of any High Performance bowling ball on the market today.

The Maximus IItm core has proven to be one of the strongest, fastest spinning cores ever developed. Since its original inception in the Epictm and modified version in the Epic Battletm it has proven to be a winner by taking home a Megabucks Title in February 2006 along with several titles around the world.

The final touch is the newly developed Ultimate Vision Hybridtm coverstock; the combination of 1 part solid and 2 parts pearl reactive delivers superior mid-lane read and pin shattering entry angle to the pocket like no other.

Pin 1 ½  - 2” mb lines up about 1 ½ “ towards my VAL.

I decided to drill this with the pin under my ring finger stack cg. That put the mb closer to my VAL.  Pin was 4 1/2 “ from my axis.

39 ft medium volume Sport condition –

Box finish – The ball was a bit too strong for me to square up like I normally prefer to do.  So I was forced to move in a bit.  I am usually uncomfortable to open up my angles too much on a Sport condition but there was nothing for me to worry about.  The Saga responded like a champ.  I did not lose a lick of carry.  The Saga hits very hard my pin carry exceeded expectations. I was able to break up splits on my (more often than I would like) bad shots.

Surface change – I changed the surface of the ball to 800 sheen.  Still too strong to play square but the surface change did allow me to leak the ball to the outside a small bit more than when it was shiny. I did not lose any of the hitting power or continuation through the pins.

THS – 44ft top hat with buff

Box finish – Huge carry power and a strong but controllable reaction when playing the track area.  Only drawback came when I got too deep inside of fourth arrow I started to lose carry.  I contribute that mostly to the layout.

Surface change – I could miss a bit more to both the outside and the middle but the carry remained strong with multiple messengers.

I love this ball!!!!

I will be drilling another one with a taller pin placement.  I can’t wait to see how much motion I get in the backend.

The Hybrid cover is a jewel.  All three balls that have had this cover (Apocalypse and the SSSE) have been very adjustable and the mid-lane read is phenomenal.

Did I mention the color?  It is a very cool Blue with the silver pearl.  The ball looks great on the rack and going down the lane.

Just when I thought I couldn’t pry the Silver Streak SE out of my hand.  Along comes the Saga.  This will be the new benchmark ball and likely candidate for ball of the year.    Great read and reaction with a lot of versatility.  I drilled mine strong 3 ½ from PAP to control tough lanes conditions.  Pins move well off the ball.  With a weaker drilling and the pin further out this will be a monster on house conditions.  The 2 to 1 coverstock gives a great look on the lanes and incredible entry angle.

WOW, THIS BALL IS WONDERFUL, I WILL START OUT BY SAYING I DRILLED THIS BALL WITH A 4X4 DRILLING AND A BALANCE HOLE 5 INCHES ON THE MIDLINE. THE PIN ENDED UP ABOVE THE FINGERS AND THE MASS BIAS TO THE RIGHT OF THE THUMB, AND I THREW THIS BALL ON SYNTHETICS WITH AND OIL PATTERN OF 39 FEET AND BUFFED TO 45. I STARTED TO THROW THE BALL TO WARM UP AND THE BALL MADE A LITTLE MOVE AND THEN I REALLY GOT INTO THROWING IT AND WAS ABLE TO LET IT GO AND GET IT WHERE I WANTED. THE BALL CLEARED THE FRONT PART OF THE LANE AND WHEN IT HIT THE DRY BACKEND AND THE FRICTION IT MADE A STRONG AND CONTNUOUS MOVE IN THE BACKEND. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE OF THE PAST PERFORMANCES OF ANY  MASS BIAS BALLS, THEY SEEMED TO WIGGLE ON ME AND HESITATE BUT THIS BALL DOESNT DO THAT, IT CONTINUES AND DOESNT STOP, AND IT IS VERY PERDICTABLE AND HITS VERY HARD. IT IS A VERY HIGHLY RECCOMENDED BALL FOR THOSE BOWLING ON A MEDIUM PATTERN AND A LEAGUE SHOT.

For a high performance ball priced under $200, "it don't get much bettr'n than this".
I drilled one with a 4 1/2" pin just right of my ring finger, with a strong MB placement. On a 40' PBA Sr regional pattern (pro-anvil lane surface) I was able to get in around 3'rd arrow and play out to 10 with no problem. The Saga is very clean thru the fronts with excellent midlane reading. Hit is very strong.
On a house shot, I moved in on the oil to play the wet/dry and had no problem striking. This ball leaves very few 10 pins on solid hits. Pins stay low on the deck giving excellent carry to off pocket hits.

Drill this one strong for medium/heavy oil and weak for medium/light.  A great ball for someone stepping up from entry level/mid level to high performance equipment.

EPIC Saga
Drilled stacked, with the pin above my ring finger, and CG almost in my palm.
When I had this on drilled, there must have been a piece of plastic in the ball cup, which cause the surface to become quite scratched.  I had it sanded, and re-polished.  No problems, still looks and rolls line new.

This ball has a great reaction.  It rev’s up very quickly, but maintains energy, and has great hitting power.  Very typical of Roto Grip equipment, very predictable, and very strong roll.  The transition from oil to dry is very smooth.  While other equipment flips out of the building when it hits the dry, the Saga has a smooth transition.  It worked well on a sport condition, and even better on a league condition, it gave me a bit more play on both conditions.  Another fantastic addition to the EPIC line.  Between the EPIC, the EPIC Battle, and the EPIC Saga, there is a ball for every condition.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 4 oz, 3.4 oz top weight, 3.5 inch pin.

The Epic Saga was drilled with a 4 3/4” pin to PAP length and the mass bias in the strong position.  This put the pin above the ring finger about one inch and the mass bias 1 inch right of the thumb.  A small balance hole on the VAL and below the PAP was needed to bring it back to specs.  The cover was left in OOB condition.

The Saga provided easy length, read the late mids good and showed a somewhat angular backend reaction with continuation through the pins.  The Saga displayed great hit and great pin carry.  It also showed good recovery on errant shots that missed wide.  The Saga’s backend reaction became more angular with a hand position change that created a higher degree of axis rotation.

In the Epic lineup, the Saga provides the most length, the strongest backend reaction and will handle less oil.  However, the Saga is not a dry condition ball and is better suited to medium / medium heavy conditions.

I DRILLED MY EPIC SAGA 4X3 WITH A WEIGHT HOLE TO BALANCE THE
WEIGHTS AND SPECS OUT . THIS BALLS ROLLS VERY SMOOTH IN THE FRONT AND REALLY COMES IN HARD ON THE BACKENDS. THIS BALL IS GREAT MEDIUM OIL BALL. I REALLY LIKE IT WHEN THE BACKENDS START TO CAARY DOWN LITTLE BIT . I TRIED ON OUR SPORT PATTERNS AND REALLYS COME IN TO HARD FOR THE CONDITIONS (SHORT OIL)35 FEET .
THIS BALL READS CONSISTANT READS THE MIDLANE AND THE BACKENDS VERY EASILY.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BALL THAT U DRILL THIS BALL FOR THE STRONG BOWLER WITH ALOT OF HAND TO DRILL WEAKER THAN NORMAL,CAUSE THIS BALL WILL HOOK .THE FIRST SET I BOWLED WITH IT I SHOOT 762 AND THE SECOND SET 300 WITH 787 . I REALLY LIKE THIS BALL .

I have drilled up two of these so far.  I find that they read the mids a little quicker than the Horizon and are a little more angular.  Compared to the other Epics, this is the longest and most angular.  Great ball for medium and house shots.

It has taken me some time to review this ball because since this ball's release my game has gone through some serious changes. First off, I have mine drilled with the pin under the ring finger with the cg toward the track at about 4:30 from the pin. Have a weight hole on the NAP to bring it to 0 side weight. The first time using this ball I was able to cover the entire lane on fresh oil conditions without seeing any over reaction. Same the same midlane read as the Epic Battle just without the tendency to roll too early. Used the ball for the first time last night during a practice session. On a pretty burnt house shot I was able to fade it out to about five. Watched it read the midlane, change direction, and hold line to the pocket. I have sold a couple of them to customers who have had problems with their Battle rolling too early. After using the Saga for about a week they are loving life right now. They have told me that once the Battle starts rolling early, they go right to the Saga without changing lines. Excellent ball for blocked conditions or oil in the heads and strong backends.

Drilled mine just like my Battle (trey ball uuuunngh) and it has a harder arc and roll to it. It took me a while to adjust to how it came off the "spot" because it did it like "poof" now you see me now you don't  If you liked the Battle you will like the Saga

I wanted to used this ball several times before reviewing.  2 1/2" pin drilled it 4 1/2" x3 1/2" weight hole 1" past axis.  Pin just under fingers.  This ball is what I am looking for.  With medium plus ball speed, medium rev rate, I have absolutely no problems clearing the heads on medium to dry.  Without going into great detail, the word I will use for this ball is "consistent".  For me, smooth off the spot and "consistent" strong backends.  I would recommend this ball to all bowlers that want "consistent" reaction.  Large numbers, several mid 7's with a 299.  (Bowler error on that one)

I love this ball. At first I wasn't sure it was going to handle heavier oil but after using it a few times and breaking through the factory polish I see I was wrong. This ball is a fast revving machine. I haven't touched mine but am told it'll change quite a bit with just a 1000 grit scuff.  It rarely goes off line even on bad shots. Not over reactive at all and throws pins around on light hits.Very true off of the break point. If the heads are a little dry it'll go into a heavy roll early but still stay on the intended path. Of course then you may lose a little carry but a minor adjustment to the left solves this. Not necessary to make a big 4 board jump. I've got mine drilled with the pin at 5"- above ther ring fgr. and mb at about 50 degrees. This has got to be one of the most versatile balls in my bag. I can play all over the lane and many different angles. Love it.

I basically put the same drilling on this ball as on my Battle and boy is this the perfect 1-2 punch for medium and heavy oil. The drilling I chose for both balls is with the pin at 4" , just above my ring finger and MB in strong position. I took my time reviewing this beauty due to getting the right surface adjustment . I bowl a 2nd shift league where there is some carrydown and i found the box surface was a little slick. So I ended up settling on 500 grit abralon then hit it with Storm Step 3. Works like a charm. First set of practice games I shot a 300 with it. The thing I really like about this ball and the Battle is you do not get allot of over/under reaction. Great ball for medium lanes. Keep up the great work Roger and Hank!!!!

I must say that I'm glad I finally drilled this piece. The Saga is a ball that revs up very quickly and hits like a truck.
The Picture:Epic Saga Layout

The Layout:  5 by 5 to PAP. Placing the pin above above the ring finger and the cg stacked under. I placed a small shallow weight hole 2 1\4 in above my PAP.

Surface Prep: I started by cutting the surface with a 2000 abralon pad followed by a 4000 pad. Then used Storm's React a Shine.

Overall: This ball works best on 2nd shift house patterns, giving me the ability to open up the lanes with ease. This ball turns off the break very strongly w/ continuous backend carry.

So if your looking for ball that gives you great read and strong carry from almost any angle...then the Epic Saga is for YOU!
