Issue with Sinister
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:08:11 PM »
Has anyone seen their Sinister lose back end reaction very quickly? I have one that after about 4 games, my Uproar was about 5 boards stronger. Cover changes and re-drill have not changed this. Anyone else had the same thing go on?

Sounds like it's burning up to me. Have you tried polishing it?

exactly.  they hook early then stop.  polish might help.

Mine calmed down quite a bit but I'm glad it did.  My guess is that it's a weak version of ERG like the lucid was...as for my game the covers are about equal, but the Crux being strongest.

Crux < sinister=lucid

My first thought was that the ball was burning up as this is typical first response whenever it is mentioned a very strong covered ball is not hooking. However, the ball DID hook a ton in the back, as expected, out of the box. Once it stopped the first thing I did was polish, as I thought it may be burning up. The polish made it worse. The second was to put surface back on. Same result. It hooked for a bit then stopped. Lastly, based on feedback from roto-grip, a re-drill and taking surface back to factory was done. Same result as previous. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. It sounds like one poster has. Anyone else?

When you took it back to factory did you go all the way down to 360 grit then back up?? I find that helps

No, I went 500, 3000. This is what I was instructed to do by Roto Grip. I am trying to decide if I want to send the ball back for evaluation or just cut my losses. They are asking that I pay shipping to them and they will pay for it back if the ball is OK or for a replacement ball if it's found defective. I already have cost of new ball, cost of re-drill and a video analysis that was done which is quite a bit into this ball. Their feeling is that I am not matching up with the ball. I am still questioning the cover due to it responding to friction when freshly re-surfaced and then dying very quickly. At this point I'm still on the fence about sending back. Still waiting for more feedback to see if others had the same issue.

What I did with mine is I used a burgundy scotch pad and scuffed the cover. This seemed to help some. I just got used to throwing it with a a little softer speed to let the ball get into a roll, and it seems to work just fine this way. I don't really use it as much any more, may try to sell it?

Same with mine. Every time I put surface on the ball (3000) I would get 3 or 4 good shots before it would lane shine and leave flat 10's. Stopped putting surface and just cleaning it and using as 2nd or 3rd game and working great as not  the first  ball. Tip from Bill Dozer.

Does anything else hook on the backend?
I would suspect the lane machine was broken before the ball died after a few games.

I've only ever seen one ball truly die... a TPC warrior after 750+ games.

I also have to ensure it gets into a roll or no carry.

billdozer, coasterp and jfram200,

If you give the ball 5 minutes or so between shots instead of shot after shot does it hook?

SS,

There are definitely bad balls out there, just a lot of people aren't good enough to notice or are convinced it's them and not the ball.

I have only used it in league.  Not in practice or prebowl/bowl out...so idk.  I seriously dont have beef with the ball...its as unique as the Crux... It got no publicity, and I think it outshines the crux...

Hey Billdozer, how would you compare the Sinister vs Crux Vs Hypercell Skid?  I'm very interested on your take on these 3 pieces.
