Rising Star / Shooting Star which to choose
« on: June 07, 2012, 06:10:15 PM »
I would love to have both of these but will be buying just one of them for now.  I currently have the Dark Star (love it), Theory (like it), Nomad (hasn't worked well for me, one of the few), and Venus (love it when the lanes dry out).  I pretty much bowl only on a house shot that seems to be pretty over/under with heads that tend to dry out.  I'm leaning toward the Rising Star because it will probably be the first to disappear as newer stuff is already on the way by RG.  Which way do you think I should go?

Big difference between the Rising Star and Shooting Star is that the Rising will give you a couple of feet more in length and be slightly more angular in the back.  It will also be a little cleaner up front.  The Shooting Star reads the midlane earlier and has more of a gradual arc motion.  Both balls complement each other well and are controllable.  Also, both balls take surface changes well.

Personally, I would go with the Rising Star first.  It should handle everything you're looking for pretty well.  Then if you need something earlier with a different motion, pick up a  Shooting Star.

JJM ,  I also love the Nomad Dagger.  Very clean thru the heads! For some reason I did not like the Infinite Theory.  Not sure why!! Looking forward to the new ball that is coming out by RG the Berserk.  Like my Bandit and it has the same core.  Dagger great ball on many PBA sport shots!!  WAMO!!

Thanks for the responses and I was planning on going with the Rising Star until....Stopped by the driving range this afternoon and they were having a Demo Day sponsored by Golf Discount.  I've been looking for a new 3 Wood and tried a bunch out.  Turned out the one I liked best was having a great promotion.  Cobra Amp 3W was on sale for $129 plus an additional 10% off for the demo day.  Too good of a deal to pass up and is probably more needed right now than another ball.  I'll still try to get a Rising Star for next season if I can still find one then.

The Nomad Dagger is one ball that is flat out great to throw on medium patterns.  That Rotary Core is still the best symmetrical core in a ball I have ever thrown.  Only reason I don't have one right now is that I went up from 15 to 16 and did a fire sale of my old arsenal.

However, if the Berserk proves to be just as good or better, than I may have to pick one up next season.

The Infinite Theory is an asymmetrical core...I personally have no luck with asymmetrical balls..Both the Dagger and Rising Star are symmetrical hybrids.

The RISING STAR is one of the best balls i have thrown. It gets very good length and strong move at the breakpoint. It is my go to ball. I defiantly will get another before they are no longer made. I highly recomend this ball.

Got to agree with tommyboy about the Dagger and the Rotary core. Too bad that RG has done away with the Rotary core for now. I would also throw in the core that the Inferno had as a great symmetric core.

The Nomad Dagger is a great ball. I was very surprised that it can handle a good amount of oil even on carry down. I have a NIB that i might drill up to complement my first one. (:O)
