Recommend 1st Seismic ball!
« on: June 21, 2011, 01:16:18 PM »
What would be a first choice to try a Seismic ball? I work at a bowling center and operate the pro shop and have never tried one. What ball company would be considered similar to Seismic and what type of reaction are people seeing from their bowling balls compared to others? I've used and liked 900 Global and AMF, are they similar to them? I'm currently using Visionary Ogre line, Motiv, Brunswick and a couple Roto Grip balls. Can I order directly from them through the bowling center/pro shop? Thanks, Bruce

They aren't like any other company. No company controls the mid-lane better which creates better reaction through the pins

What kind/amount of oil handling are you looking for?
What type of ball reaction do you prefer?
Pearl or solid? Symmetric or asymmetric?
(Many of their cores are asymmetric these days.)

Seismic, for a smallish company, has a wide range of coverage.
While 900Global manufactures Seismic and will work with them in some research, they are their own company.

From charlest/Jeff:

What kind/amount of oil handling are you looking for? 3 balls: med/light, med to med/heavy, and heavy

What type of ball reaction do you prefer? I prefer smoother/control with strong arc finish & not skid/flip

Pearl or solid? Symmetric or asymmetric? I prefer solids so I can highly polish or dull. I like both cores depending on conditon and I've had my highest sets with asymmetric, but symmetric sometimes for more even reaction.

(Many of their cores are asymmetric these days.) Thanks Jeff

To Dean,

Did you bowl the Junior Gold national tournament about 3 years ago when it was in the Buffalo, NY area? Thanks everybody for any comments and/or suggestions, Bruce

yes I did bowl in Buffalo. I could have doubled to win that tournament but I went x62. Either way I made Jr team USA off that week.

You can certainly make Seismic go skid/flip but they tend to arch more. The blackout is the most versatile ball out on the market. It can be drilled to do whatever you want.

To Dean,

My inlaws live outside the Buffalo area and we were there with some kids that bowled in that tournament. I remember watching you bowl and thought I had the name right! Some very impressive bowling was going on and the young girl that I helped did really good at first and the nerves took over. She won two junior gold tournaments and she was 14 y/o. Thanks for the info and the Blackout was one that I had in mine for the control, Bruce

Bruce,

If you like solids that don't flip (both of these have symmetric cores try the
a) Seismic BlackOut for light to medium. It comes highly polished but is easily modified. I'd use a stronger drill if you wan to get closer to medium oil.
This is Buddies web page for the BlackOut:

For medium to medium-heavy, try the Solaris Requiem.pretty strong solid with the stock 1000 grit surface, but can be smoothed out to 2000 or 4000 grit for more length. Try 2000 grit + some polish for medium to medium heavy. Same core as the Blackout (for consistency's sake) but much stronger cover.

I really love the concept of their new medium-light to medium pearl, the Euphoria.
It uses an old Track core that I really loved. The cover is the pearl of the BlackOut and is still considered to be a control ball. I will probably try one in the Fall when leagues resume.

Thanks Jeff for the reply and recommendations! I really like the looks of the Euphoria as well cause I like that core in the former Track before the EBI buyout! All three of those interests me! Thanks again and keep up the great posts and reviews, Bruce

The EUPHORIA is a really good piece. I got one drilled like this:

Ball is real clean, but still has a read of the midlane, due in part to the good flare pattern I get from this core, but isn't as "snappy" as many other pearls I've thrown. For me, with this drilling, it rolls up with the thumbhole on the PSA( you can see it rotating about the white thumbsleeve), and has a very strong arcish nature to it.

And the color you see isn't really as bright as the ball is in person. and it carries as well as anything else I can stick in the pocket.

To Juggs:

I appreciate the post with the pic! I really like that ball. The core is one of the best used over the years and should be golden with the new coverstocks! Does Seismic use the same coverstocks as the 900 Global/AMF or do they have their own blend? Thanks for the help, Bruce

I'll second the Euphoria!  The Euphoria is a great benchmark piece.  It's the first ball out of my bag, and most consistent.  Can't go wrong here with it.

I heard Seismic does all their own core stuff, but not sure about the covers. It would be my GUESS that they would have qualities in mind when designing the balls, so would probably have an idea about what strength cover would be close, then tweak it either way after some initial testing, ending up with a proprietary mixture of their own.

As for that core? I really loved that old Track ASSASSIN I used to have...................

Batbowler I have both Euporia and BlackOut and both are great bowling balls. Both carry the world on consistent basis, both are easy to read and adjust with.

IMO the BlackOut is a little better all around than the Euporia. I think with drill patterns I am using the BlackOut is a much better choice because it works on wider assortment of lane conditions. I have used the BlackOut sucessfully on everything from Cheetah playing very straight and to Mexico City hooking it across the lane, all with the same layout and surface.

Seismic overall is just as good as any other companies equipment. The may not have the name "Storm" "Roto Grip" or "Ebonite" but the pins fall down just as heard when Seismic hits them.

Seismic Aftermath Solid will cover all Heavy Patterns(Medium/Heavy in volume and length of the pattern)

Seismic Aftermath Pearl & Solaris Blackout will cover all Medium Patterns(Medium Volume & Length)

Seismic Euphoria will cover Medium Oiled Patterns that are lighter in volume and length & most Medium/Light Oil Patterns with weaker drilling layouts.

I've been using 900 Global since 2008.  And Seismic since 2010.  My arsenal now consists of mostly Seismic and a few 900 Global/AMF300 bowling balls.  900 Global pours for Seismic, but as far as i know, Seismic only uses a blend of cores from the past(from other companies) in there symmetric bowling balls. And they start from scratch, with all the R & D for the asymmetric bowling balls.

I was kind of hoping for the 2 new balls to have a higher RG than the previous asymmetric releases from Seismic. But i've yet to try out the Raging Bull Series from Seismic as i've got enough equipment to handle Medium/Heavy Oil patterns that i see every week.

I've watched a lot of videos for the Seismic line and they all seem to have a great reaction. Will the Euphoria and Blackout be to much of an overlap in reaction, or are they diffent enough to use both? If I had both I was think of taking the polish off the Blackout and go more of 2000 abralon surface. Thanks again to everybody that have responded, Bruce
