Venator 1st thoughts!
« on: August 29, 2013, 09:56:07 PM »
I received a Venator from Seismic along with a Raging Bull Stampede! I was planning on drilling it pin up as recommended by Seismic. I received a ball with a 2-3" pin and I did the pin up layout and I talked myself out of it! I opted for my favorite layout with a 40deg x 3-3/4" x 55deg, which places the pin in my ring finger and the MB on my VAL. I used a P3 weight hole and this ball is what others are saying about it! I'm a low track bowler with a high axis rotation and I had from 15 to 5 and when I didn't strike it was a 9 pin! My pap is from 4-1/4 to 4-1/2 depending on the ball and strength of core! To see what the ball would do with others, I let several guys test the ball. One is a very high track player that the first oil ring is right next to middle finger and thumb. The other is a young man that very tall with very high ball speed and tracks between myself and the high track player! They both struck at will and had as much room as I was seeing! Several of their pitches I would have bet the farm that it was to far right and they would get about a 7 count! Each time they both were striking and had a lot of room. I'm not on Seismic staff and not getting a thing for this review, but this ball is amazing! Same ball, three different styles of bowlers and all of us was getting the same results in regards to ball reaction! We did leave a 10 pin once and that's when the high track player moved to 35 and went out to about 7 at the range finder/Brunswick Pro Anvil lanes. The lanes was fresh with a modified Stone Street at 41' and about 23ml of oil! Yes we left some 9 pins and several 4-9's, but it was amazing to see the reaction each of us had with the same ball! I use Grip-Loc interchangeable thumbs so others can test the balls I drill! I did take pictures to show the cover stock thickness for those wanting to know that info! The fingers was right at 1/2" thick, thumb and weight hole was about 7/16" thick and it's comparable to other manufacturers cover thickness! This is my first time testing a Seismic ball and tomorrow I'm drill the Stampede and post my finding on it! The Venator is a very nice ball from Seismic and I hope others have the opportunity to test one and see for themselves that it's the real deal! Just my $.02, Bruce

Hey Bill, what layout did he use? Being a lower track player I find that the higher pin placements sometimes for me aren't user friendly! I find that if I use a higher pin, I have to use a very low drill angle to get the ball to read the lanes without going to long!

Idk honestly a seismic staffer did lay it out for him though.  Its a pin high with the mb near the thumb.  He just doesnt seem to be consistent or carry well with it.  I am that way with any of the shape lock hd cored balls from storm.  From the shift to the vgnano pearl...they all just didnt work for me, im that way withe gas mask core too lol.  Just about everything else works for me.

Im hoping the factory finish is the problem on the venator and in about 6-12 games itll be money....he likes it, so its w/e lol.

Bill

Have him take the ball to 4000. I didn't feel the ob surface read the lane well. I went to 4000 and its a beast and carries everything. I have mine drilled 50x4.5x35. The ball is still pretty clean upfront but world if difference in the midlane and finish

Keep in mind it needs oil!!

I prefer to drill balls with a stronger drill angle, cause for me and my lower track. I have trouble getting the ball to read the mids and has an inconsistent break point! I get more over/under with the higher drill angles and I can't carry without the lanes being to dry for most people! I'm amazed at the high gloss finish and how well the ball read the lanes, but that could be cause of the lower drill angle! I agree with VK about the surface and with the higher pin, it may be going to long and that would be my first option! I'm drill the Stampede with a higher pin and low drill angle, but leaving the box finish! Just my $.02, Bruce
