Venator Pearl!
« on: April 18, 2014, 09:54:48 PM »
Brunswick house, Medium oil, I believe 42 ft.
Me: 17-18mph, haven't officially gauged RPMs, but video will show.

I got my VP in on Thursday, the day of league, so I had to have it drilled. Couldn't wait to throw it.

The CG was out of line so the driller and I discussed a few things and decided to try a new placement for me, just to see what it would do with the ball. I'll be adding pics/video at some point soon, days off allowing.

Anyway, to the point!

I went up whenever I finally had it, and threw where I originally threw my Venator while it was polished. Standing 37-lay down 30-breakpoint 5. This was about 4 frames into the first game, so nothing was really torn up.

What happened? Well, I watched as it went. And went. And then clinched because it looked like it wasn't going to catch and was just going to gutter. I started to turn and walk, and then it FLIPPED. That thing...Just...Went left. Shattered the pocket and left pins rolling on the deck!

I decided that that was a little bit too risky for myself, and brought target in a couple boards, and scooted a couple boards right. A simple 3/2 move and I was slamming pocket out consistently.

With the layout I went with, if I tug it in oil it's not going to roll up quite well. That's where the OG Venator comes in, so they work VERY well with each other. As the night went on and the oil pushed down the reaction didn't so much die, it just smoothed out. It was odd, because I just kept moving right, instead of left.

All in all, I freaking love this ball. Going to try it at a slightly drier house and I'll post with results! Video should be coming Thursday of this coming week, or I'll try the week after.

BTW: I decided to see if I could do the Mainzer. Jumped right and threw it hard up ten. Ball held line and smashed the pocket hard enough to eject a pin past the sweep :p The backend power of this thing is amazing. Note: Just meant I tried to throw it harder than normal. No derogatory meaning here!

Two houses I tried it on its just to much. When I do find a nice line with the VP it comes in so deep its 9,10 pins left and right. I jjust put it on the spinner ran it 1k-2k to try and smooth it out a bit. Will see tomorrow how it does.

So, as it turns out, the bowling alley I bowl at on Monday's got a new oil machine last week. Yay for oil! Anyway, here's what happened.

AMF slightly worn lanes, but with new more accurate oiling/generous application.

I wouldn't say medium-heavy, but the length was 46ft and thicker across, instead of  heavily tapered.

I had to play 20-8 with the Venator Pearl, staying tighter with my line and on the fringe of friction. If I went right, it rebounded too strong and shot through the nose. Missed left, it was just DOA for me.

I ended up switching to the OG Venator to break down a line and give a little more, so after 2 games, the Venator Pearl was back in action.

Definitely a great compliment to the original Venator, just don't be stubborn and use it when it's the right time.
