Arsenal and possible resurfacing advice??
« on: March 01, 2015, 03:34:49 AM »
Hello, I'm new to this forum and looking for more advice from other bowlers outside of my bowling alley. I'm a JR bowler and ave around 190 in both leagues. All advice will be taken into consideration when I make a decision so please reply with anything you have to say. Thank you in advance

I have a Hy-road solid with the pin drilled out, same with an IQ tour solid. I have an uproar that I'm waiting on to get drilled so I don't really know what I have for an aresenal right now.

I don't really know how to find the PAP on my ball and I don't really know the boards and where each one is otherwise I'd tell everyone where I'm playing right now. However, I do know that I have a fairly high track and that I'm definitely a stroker.

i like to start with my Hy-road solid and move to my IQ tour when the fronts go and maybe move in a board or so. However, when my IQ just begins to be to much for me I don't have anything to go down to because those are the only two balls I have. I hope that when I get my uproar drilled I'll be able to go down to that but I'm not sure if I will like the motion from it. I've heard that the uproar snaps a lot on the backend, that's why I actually got one because someone didn't like the reaction the ball was giving them, can anyone tell me how to maybe smooth out the backend for when I get it drilled??? Or suggest a ball that won't be as snappy on the backend but gets through the fronts when their beaten up???

Also I have been on lanes that my Hy-Road doesn't hook very much or just doesn't have the entry angle I need so does anyone have an idea for something to ball up to??

Hi, Welcome to the site.  I can't help you with your arsenal questions but perhaps with your other questions.

How to find your PAP.

Boards:

There are 41 boards on the lane.  Start counting from the gutter on your release arm side.  There are arrows on every fifth board.  The center arrow is on the 20th board.

Your HyRoad not hooking:

Are you sure that there is sufficient oil on the lanes?  You can stand at the foul line and look at the lanes to see if there is any oil.  If oiled, you should see that the lanes look wet and have a glassy appearance to it.  The shinier the lanes look, the more oil.  When the oil has been depleted, the lanes should look dry (dull).  If the lanes are too dry, a strong ball may not have enough energy left for the back of the lanes so it will appear to be not hooking.  If the lanes look very wet and your HyRoad is not hooking, then either there is too much oil for the ball or you need to make a line adjustment to try to find a dry area of the lanes for the ball to hook.

See this link for a picture of the River Of Oil:
