Code Red or Marvel Pearl
« on: August 15, 2018, 02:41:27 PM »
Hello All,

I'm getting back into a THS league, having taken some time away from sport bowling. As a result I've got some equipment to help control shorter oil patterns and predictable hook phases Iq Tour and Hustle Ink. The IQT has been my go to for THS but I find myself hitting up on it to roll 1-3-5-9 correctly. The Hustle Ink less so but can wiggle with fresh oil (60x5x60). My speed/rev combination approx 16mph breakpoint maybe 400-450 rev rate, high track, low tilt, moderate axis rotation.

I've since added a Code Black out of impulse before they discontinued for the core/cover combination. Being rev dominate I tend to avoid the juiced up covers. Great piece for conditions where I can bank shot off track players broken lines, never use it on fresh. I've debated about adding surface to this one or going Code Red with a short pin to PAP and some surface.

While trying to find a happy medium I've considered a Marvel Pearl, maybe even a high road. Any input?

Code Red and Marvel Pearl honestly do better on sport than house, with that said I preferred my Marvel Pearl over the Code Red for house.

Hy-Road is a safe house shot bet. I actually prefer the Hy-Road Pearl, but if you have a lot of volume it can go a bit long.

Another option is the Code X and letting it lane shine. It would be a good first ball and then hop to the Code Black when the X is burning up.
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III
Trend
IQ Tour

I would go with the Code X as aforementioned. Hy-Road would be a good addition if you're adding another ball after the Code X.

Nearly everyone should have a Hy-Road of some type (except the solid that ball was not well received) if throwing Storm.  Marvel Pearl is also really growing on me even on house as for a pearl it sure does read the midlane well.  Not big on asyms so haven't thrown the Code balls.

I had one Hyroad years back and found it to be too aggressive for sport patterns, the ball liked to stand up whenever it sniffed dry boards. Having said that I never used it on THS... Unfortunately sold it to bank roll funds toward an IQ Tour. No actual regrets on that one as the Tour way my favorite in a verity of sports conditions.

I echo the recommendation of a Code X to pair with your Code Black, IQ tour, and Ink. That's a pretty good 4 ball setup to cover all but the extremes
