Hyroad vs hyroad pearl?
« on: March 21, 2018, 07:51:32 PM »
I’m actually deciding between the hyroad live and the hyroad black pearl but they’re just the hyroad and hyroad pearl with a color and smell change.

If y’all had to pick one of the two, what would you choose?  Which is your favorite?

Will be style dependent.  I need the hybrid on conditions I see with my style as its stronger overall and can handle more oil.  Pearl needs a fair amount of friction to be effective for me.

I don’t have a high ball speed. I’d most likely be categorized as a stroker.

I’m leaning towards the pearl right now, its newer (the black pearl came out like 2 weeks ago) and I kinda like the color on it a little better.

I’m at that point where if I don’t read this forum between now and then I’ll buy the pearl but I can still be easily dissuaded by a good argument for the hybrid

Do whatever you want.  They are both fine choices.  The pearl just like most pearls is better once you get some transition and the hybrid is better on the fresh.  I own both (pearl in 16lb though).  Like the Hybrid so much have a 2nd one sitting NIB just in case.

I think being a stroker, the hyrbid cover will be more controllable off the spot being you play the friction (track area--i am assuming anyways).

I'm 15.5 mph and can play any part of the lane successfully except for up the first arrow...im too slow and rev dominant to play outside of 5 at the arrows. Anywho

I absolutely love the original hyroad, i own a 09 and a 15 hyroad Hybrid and a hyroad pearl...and to this day I still am not won over by the hyroad pearl.  I must have a bad one...it hydroplanes and has a terrible backend read 90% of the time. However the hyroad is money almost all the time.  On top of it, the track record of the hyrbid is much better, and the Hybrid R2S I feel is more versatile for conditions and surface changes.

To me it's a no brianer it's storms top ball of all time.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]

Pretty well stated. I must add though that I hated my first Hy-Road Pearl, but my current one is amazing. Drilling isn't a ton different from my first one, but it rolls way better.

One more day to decide. He was closed by the time I got there. I was literally listening to ball reviews the whole way to the pro shop trying to decide between the two. Luke’s videos have me still on the fence because he put the original hyroad in his top 10 storm balls but has the hyroad pearl in his essentials collection.

Basically I gather that to the question I asked is that there isn’t a wrong answer, just maybe a more right answer based on style or preference

The OG Hy-Road is ledgondary for the exceptional carry. My question is does the pearl version have the same potential for carry?

I think it's a rev rate/friction thing like Hack said.  Hyroad Pearl needs friction or a lot of hand to be at its best, and if it's there, it's a great ball, and a great compliment to the OG Hyroad for when the lanes get a little too dry for it.  OG Hyroad IS the more versatile of the two, but I find the pearl is better for me from angle because I can really hammer on it at the bottom and it keeps climbing back up the hill kind of like the Hectic, while the Hyroad can tend to be sharper on the friction and "stand up" from really steep angles unless you've got the volume to hit up on it and still get it down the lane.
