LANE CONDITION

Length: 41 ft

Volume: 19.3 ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS (Kegel Main Street)

COMMENTS

Those that have been comparing this ball to the Tour Power from several years ago have every right to.  This is an excellent control ball.  The IQ Tour Edition allows you to read all three phases and see the transitions.  It's not a weak ball by any means.  This ball produced very strong entry angles as well.
If you're not bothered by having a "boring" color, you will not be disappointed with this ball, especially if you're looking for a ball that will be very versatile.
With the R2S solid cover, you can take it down in abralon if you need some more friction or add some polish to add a foot or two of length.  Either way, you can do anything to this cover as it has a long history.
This will likely be one of the better benchmark-type offerings on the market.  You can read all the transitions easily and it still has very nice punch coming out of the oil.

The IQ TOUR ball details are here:
   http://www.stormbowling.com/products/balls/iqtouredition

You can find a picture of my IQ on my blog here:
   http://www.11thframe.com/page/reviews

There has been a lot of talk that the IQ TOUR has the core of the TOUR POWER, which is one of the great control balls of all time. The IQ TOUR core is not exactly the TOUR POWER core, but the fast-revving symmetrical C3-Centripetal Control Core is close enough to think of it that way. The very low 0.029 differential (15-pounders) is the number that stands out. Put it with the R2S solid coverstock (4,000 Abralon box finish) that was used in great balls like the SPECIAL AGENT and T-ROAD SOLID and you have what should be a great benchmark ball.
That certainly was my thinking in choosing a drilling with the pin under my bridge and the CG kicked right at about 60 to 75 degrees. I chose the pin under drilling because if it's going to be a benchmark ball for fresh oil it better have a drilling that gets it rolling. My 61/64 weight hole is at P3, which should increase flare by 21 percent
The PIN to PAP is 5, PAP to "MB" is 4 7/8, and pin buffer is 4 3/4.
I have used the IQ on a wet-dry house shot on Brunswick ProLane synthetics and the PBA Chameleon pattern in a PBA Regional on older Brunswick synthetics.
My reaction to the IQ TOUR is simply: WOW!
The midlane move on the IQ TOUR is incredible. On the house shot, I had to get about 3-and-2 deeper than I was with the IQ and could throw it very hard and it never went through the breakpoint.
And it was completely unusable on Chameleon for my moderate speed/tweener rev rate combination.
I can't wait to try it on a heavier/longer Sport pattern than the 39-foot, typically flying Chameleon, and on a house shot with a lot more oil than the place I tried it usually uses.
It's also possible that I could use it on lighter patterns if I shined the cover, but I want to try it on heavier oil before I do that.
If you're someone looking for a ball that makes a strong move in the midlane, the IQ TOUR is a ball you should get. If that's something you don't like, you probably want to avoid it, or at least plan on shining it a lot.

Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
Typical Conditions: Variety of Shots
Type of Lane: All Synthetic
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box
What grit was the surface of the ball? 4000
Likes: Midlane read and strong change of direction off the spot.
Dislikes: None so far.

My layout: 65 x 4 1/8" x 30
My PAP: 5 7/8" over 1/8"

The IQ Tour edition combines the C3-Centripetal Control Core with the R2S cover finished with 4000 abralon.

I have used this ball primarily on a 40' heavy oil house shot so far, aside from a couple of games this past weekend when I needed something to step down from the IQ to in order to clear the front of the lane a little better but still handle the volume of oil in the midlane. This ball handled both just fine.

What I saw this ball do on the house shot prior to shooting a demo video was insane. The ball literally struck from everywhere on the lane. One shot that I completely threw out the window recovered and struck. This ball will without a doubt help most bowlers open up the pocket.

Storm says "Since we built the IQ Tour Edition to be the foundation of your arsenal, you can be confident in the fact that this ball will be consistent across a variety of lane conditions." I see no evidence to contradict this statement.

I see the IQ and IQ Tour being a great 1-2 combination in anyone's bag. The IQ Tour when a sharper reaction is needed off the spot and the IQ when you need an earlier read and smoother backend reaction.

Storm Bowling Products enjoyed much success on the PBA tour this past season and that doesn't seem to be changing with Rhino Page winning in the South Region on June 17th with the IQ Tour Edition.

Wt. of Bowling Ball: 15 lbs
Ball Surface: 3000
Lanes: Synthetic
Type: House Shot

Likes: Length and Backend Motion

Dislikes: None so far

In league play last night shot 229 + 254 + 276 for a 759 Series. Started with a more direct angle to the pocket and then followed the oil line left. This ball is very versatile and has a consistent/ slightly aggressive movement to the pocket.

The IQ Tour is a new release in the Master line of bowling balls from Storm. The Tour has the same shaped weight block as the regular IQ, but has the densities changed to reduce the amount of differential in the ball. The change in densities has lowered the diff of the Centripetal core from .050 to .029 in 15lb balls. The rg goes up to a 2.49 from 2.48 in 15lbs. Translation; less flare and more control. The cover was also changed to the R2S solid that made its debut on the Special Agent. Ever since the R2S came out, it has been a proven winner on ball after ball. The easy at which a bowler can scuff or polish to create the desired ball motion is second to none.  I drilled the Tour with the pin over ring, and cg on the grip line (5x5.5), no extra hole.

The Tour is designed to basically be a bench mark ball. It has a 4000 grit abralon finish from factory, and can be easily adjusted to suit any bowler’s needs. The biggest asset the IQ Tour gives to me, is the ability to recover from about anywhere on the lane. If I’m playing out, the Tour comes back from the 1 and 2 boards. If I’m playing in, the Tour changes direction hard enough to carry the 7 pin out with ease.  Basically, I can trust the Tour on just about any condition to give me a look to the pocket. When nothing else works, I can count on the IQ tour getting me to the 1-2 pocket.

The IQ Tour reminds me a lot of the Tour Power. I am able to use the Tour in the same situations that I used the Tour Power in. I call it my “get out of jail” ball. Polishing the cover really smoothes out the reaction for me, and makes for a very minimal change of direction. With surface, the cover wants to bit into the lane much harder, and snap into the pocket. For bowling balls with more differential, I generally see the reverse of this scenario.  The lack of flare means that less fresh cover material is touching the lane, so when surface is applied, the ball “wakes up” and hooks more.

So far the only condition that the Tour hasn’t excelled on is the over walled house condition. The really dry outside and the really oily inside makes the Tour a bit over/under for me. I need to use balls that flare a lot more than the Tour when encountering this type of condition. Clearly, in the balls name, one can expect the “IQ Tour” to excel on more tournament, flatter conditions. I would suggest looking into the regular IQ for the top hat house shots. As far as any tournament condition though, EVERY player should be drilling an IQ Tour.
God creates us with a blank canvas, and the "picture" we paint is up to us. Paint a picture you like and love!

Lane Conditions: Many
Typical Conditions: Variety of Shots: House, Stockholm,Dick Webber
Type of Lane: All Synthetic
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box
What grit was the surface of the ball? 4000
Likes: Very predictable motion going down the lane
Dislikes: Other bowlers can use it also!

My layout: 65 x 4 1/4" x 35
My PAP: 4 3/4" over 1 5/8 up

The IQ Tour is an incredible bowling ball.  I have used this ball on a variety of conditions, low scoring as well as high scoring. The IQ Tour gets through the front with ease, then reads the mid lane, and then continues through the back in a motion that is very smooth and predictable, yet very powerful. This is a combination that really fits my bowling style well.

I feel it is very important for any serious bowler to have a ball in their ball with a very predictable motion like the IQ Tour. It is a lot easier to read lane conditions as well as the transition when you ball isn’t doing tricks as it goes down the lane.  I think bowlers tend to make more quality shots when they are lined up. The IQ Tour adds up to more consistency and higher scores.

In closing I had a lot of tournament success with the IQ Tour on a variety of different shots. The ball reacted great in tournaments on a house pattern, modified house pattern, Dick Webber, as well as Stockholm. The angle I played was out as far as 2-3 and as deep as 17. The ball performed equally great on all these conditions at a variety of angles. The IQ Tour is the first ball out of my bag in every tournament!

Storm IQ Tour Edition

PAP : 4 ½ & ½ up
Rev Rate: 400-425 rpm
Ball Weight: 15lbs
Right Handed

The Storm IQ Tour Edition is another great addition to the Master Line.  If you are looking for a benchmark ball to see how the lanes are playing, this is the ball for that.  I like this ball so much, I’ve drilled three of them.  I’ve drilled one strong, weak, and in-between.  All three are going to be going with me to the World Series in Vegas.

I am very confident this ball serves its purpose on all types of conditions.  It takes surface well and when it shines up, definitely has a quicker response time because of the .029 differential.  Side by side with the IQ, the Tour Edition is cleaner through the front part of the lane with a quicker response time down-lane.

I would recommend this ball on medium/heavy volume patterns, especially when you need a ball to make the corner without using a pearl ball. The strongest one I drilled (3.5 x 3 with a hole on my axis) is definitely early and uses a lot of energy in the front part of the lane.  The benchmark drilling is 4.5 x 4 and is a great ball for league or to blend out the end of a pattern.  The weaker one I drilled (5.5 x 5, no hole) is very good when I have to get inside of 20 and create a larger shape down lane.

Go drill one, you won’t be disappointed!

IQ Tour 60 x 4 x 75 Pin Down

Let me first by saying “WOW” about throwing the IQ Tour.

The IQ Tour uses the fast-revving symmetrical C3-Centripetal Control Core with a low differential of .029 in 15 pounders.  The Tour uses the R2S solid coverstock (4,000 Abralon box finish).  The IQ Tour should be nickname “midlane”.  The Tour is a ball that is hard to throw through the breakpoint.  This is a ball that just reads the lane the correct way.
Leaving the ball at box finish, I bowled on the Kegel Turnpike pattern and had great control of the pocket.  This pattern doesn’t have a lot hold and swing, so it was hard pattern to consistently hit the pocket.  But with the IQ Tour strong midlane I was able to create a little miss room and score very well on this pattern.
For league I applied Storm Step 2 Compound as our local houses are on the dry side.
This gave me some added length but still gave me great control of the breakpoint.  I could play up the lane or I could circle the lane with the IQ Tour.  If you remember the Special Agent, the IQ Tour is very close.  Even with the low differential I was amazed with the good hitting power and carry that it delivered.  This is a ball that every tournament bowler should have in his or her arsenal.  Great product from Storm!

Storm IQ Tour Ball Review
by Storm Staffer Casey Murphy

Right Handed
Rev Rate:  375-400 Rpm
Ball Speed:  16 mph
PAP:  4 5/8 straight across

Location:  Sunshine Lanes
Lane Pattern:  Typical House Shot
Layout:  35, 5 3/4, 40 with a p1 hole

Go buy this ball.  If you throw Storm equipment the IQ Tour is a MUST HAVE.  The low RG and low diff core, combined with the proven R2S Solid Reactive cover creates a special combination.  The midlane motion and controlled backend of the IQ Tour allow it to be used on both house patterns and tougher sport patterns.  After drilling the IQ Tour, I won the next 3 tournaments I bowled, which were on high, medium and low scoring paces respectively.  The IQ Tour created a special reaction on all that the rest of the bowlers in the field couldnt match.

Predictable/consistent roll in the midlane + strong fast reving controlled backend = dominant reaction.  Like the Virtual Gravity, HyRoad, and Frantic, the IQ Tour is the new essential ball for Storm Nation.

I couldn’t sit aside and watch people strike with this ball against me any longer, so I had to drill one up for myself finally.  The IQ Tour is a unique formula; a low rg, low differential core with a fairly aggressive cover has not been done as long as I can remember.  The ball motion is unique as well.  If you can imagine in your head what the quintessential “benchmark” ball reaction would be, this is it.  It doesn’t hook early, but doesn’t squirt too long.  It doesn’t flip, but finishes consistently and continuously.  It hooks a good amount in oil, but doesn’t over hook in dry.  This is truly a remarkable ball.

Mine is drilled 60 x 4 x 35.  Compared to my IQ, the Tour Edition is cleaner through the front with a little more pop in the back.  Compared to a Victory Road Solid (the last ball with this coverstock), the IQ Tour offers a more controlled move at the breakpoint, because of its lower differential.

This is really a ball that will find a spot in every bowler’s bag.  Straight guys, hook guys, and all guys in between have had success with this ball as their centerpiece in their arsenals.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP at 60* PAP angle and 25* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 60/4.5/25. The pin ended up about 1" above my ring finger with the CG swung out from the ring finger. The 60* angle put the eye of the Storm about a half inch right of my centerline. I also have a weight hole 2" past my positive axis point (approx 7 1/4"). Even with the hole passed my axis, the flare is tight and about 3-3 1/2" wide.

Surface: I am box finish which is 4000 factory abralon.

Purpose: I wanted to drill up this up to see what it rolled like and also to get it on the lane beside other pieces in my bag. I also wanted to see what the hype has been about since this one is getting a lot of PR from players in my area on just about everything.

Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on a couple of different patterns: On our sport shot leagues last night pattern (40 feet), and second shift of our normal league pattern. The second shift was following a mixed league full of plastic throwers and head pin hunters. Strong arcing but predictable would be the best way to describe it. Our house condition is 38 feet on Brunswick Pro Anvil Lane. One thing I could do was go away from the pocket and get it back with some authority. The lower Diff stores up energy for the back end of the lane. On the 40 foot sport pattern, the ball got up to the pocket very easily and I could throw it straighter or try to hook it if needed.

Response to Friction:I would rate this a medium response in box condition. The motion is strong arc off the spot. The response time might go up some with a smoother surface but I can't see it becoming more than a little stronger arc. This ball is real good at hand position and speed adjustments to delay or increase the breakpoint.

Other Ball Comparisons: I did get to throw it some side by side with my Defiant, Vivid, and Modern Marvel. The Defiant was much earlier and stronger on the back end. The Vivid surprisingly was a little sharper off the breakpoint than the IQ Tour. My Modern Marvel was more on the backend than the IQ Tour, but the IQ Tour was earlier in the midlane so it looked like more hook than the MM.

Final Thoughts: The IQ Tour gives me the impression in my short time of throwing it that it is a great piece for people who like to make physical adjustments like hand and wrist position changes. It should also be real good for the players that can control the front of the lane with speed control. I can now see what the hype has been all about as this should be a great piece for sport conditions also.

Hello All and thanks for reading.  Here is the link to our video review : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of2IKxfwarM&feature=BFa&list=UUUdapKcbpNzp3PGwdo7P6GQ

Storm you have certainly outdone yourself.  Sometimes less is more so the saying goes.  We are all familiar with this shape core from the other IQ and Marvel series but changing the densities has made a winner.  This ball is the new industry benchmark.  I have thrown this ball (layout 65 x 4 3/4 x 65) on every house shot on every lane surface on every animal pattern and had much success.  Surface changes are easy and very effective but mine stays box surface with maybe a slight glaze.  With a core that helps the ball hold energy downlane and into the pins this ball is easy to score with.  Smooth through the front, midlane transition is predictable and continuation is the best in the biz right now.  Enjoy this one guys, it may be around for a long time....at least I hope so.

Likes: This ball rolls so smoooooth! I didn't think anything could roll as good as the Hyroad until I threw the IQ Tour. Mine is drilled pin down below the ring finger and the CG stacked below, 2 in. pin. This ball is very controllable, it will do exactly what you tell it, no surprises. I find mine works best when I'm able to move left and give it some room, the carry is a little better when I am able to swing the ball. I used it in a double elimination doubles tournament last weekend, once the lanes were scorched and everyone was playing over the left gutter, this ball worked amazing. The IQ Tour will give you a different look than anything else Storm has. Oh, and did I mention this ball rolls smooth?

Dislikes: Not much to dislike about this ball.
