Length:39 and 36

Volume:Medium and light

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):both

The Storm Lights Out gives you great length and a predictable backend motion. The Lights Out was more than I expected from this line. The layout that I used was pin over the fingers with no X-hole or 70 X 5 ½ X 40 for the dual angle people. My rev rate is about 300 and my ball speed is roughly around 15 to 16 mph. I have very little tilt and I am very comfortable going up the lane.

The first pattern I used the Lights Out on was the Masters Pattern. The Lights Out went way too far with the OOB surface so a scuffed it up with 2000 grit. That my friends was the perfect choice. I was able to play to the right and keep the ball in front of me the entire night. The Lights Out gave excellent me length and fantastic recovery. Like I said before “the Lights Out is more ball than I expected!”

The last pattern I used it on was a house pattern with very little volume and the Lights Out was unbelievable!  The Lights Out gave me room in either direction as soon as I moved to the right a touch. My Rev Rate and No tilt is sometimes a problem with house patterns…. Over/ under until the carry down happens! The lights Out enabled me to play straighter and when I missed in, I still had a chance at striking! The Lights Out is a must for any level of bowler.

Likes: The length and recovery

Dislikes:Too polished

Storm Lights Out Ball Review

After only drilling a couple Tropical Heat’s and one Tropical Breeze, I had my expectations set as to what the Lights Out was going to be like.  But, I was pleasantly surprised on how much this ball hooks! For a ball in our “Hot” line, I feel like it definitely a step up from the Heat series.  When the lanes really start to hook and your angles are forced really far open, the Lights Out will be a perfect match.  I have always been hesitant on drilling balls with smaller cores and weaker covers because I’ve noticed they don’t go through the pins very well.  The Lights Out is anything but that and goes through the pins great for a ball with a tremendous amount of length.
I drilled mine 4 ½ x 4 ¼ with a tiny hole on my axis approximately 3’ deep.  I made sure to put a weight hole in this ball to ensure the ball will flare enough and the flare rings would be far enough apart.  Out of the box, I feel the Lights Out has a very quick response time to friction.  I recommend lightly grazing the surface with a 2000 or 3000 pad just to knock the original shine off.  This will help the ball hook in oil and not be so quick off the friction.  If you are looking for a piece when the lanes hook a lot, if your center has an old surface, or simply a replacement for one of your lower/mid-range balls, a Lights Out will fill that gap nicely!

Lights Out!!!!!
When this ball came out I had expectations but this ball went way beyond that. This ball is a must have for medium to dry lane conditions. This ball just floats through the heads and is very angular. For the price point this is a fantastic ball. Definitely  another hit for storm

Lights Out
PAP - 4 3/16 over 1/4 up
Ball Speed 17-18 mph
Rev Rate 300-350
Right Handed
Layout 37 x 4 x 34
Surface Preparation: OOB

What I was looking for: I was looking for this ball to have an overall smooth arcing motion but still have the lovely pop on the backend that you get out of hybrid balls.

What I got: As for the reaction, this ball rolls exactly how I wanted it to. It starts picking up fairly soon gets into transition very smoothly but still doesn’t hold back on the backend. It hooks a lot more than I expected it to.

This ball goes very well with the new Freakn Frantic. It actually hooks about the same amount but it picks up a little bit sooner due to its Hybrid Coverstock. When this ball starts hooking a little too soon I go to the Freakn Frantic. Perfect 1-2 Punch for house shots and medium sport shot conditions.

I can’t wait for more balls in this series, great ball for the lower price point.

LANE CONDITION

Length:40 ft

Volume: med

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

The Lights Out is one of the best balls I have thrown in a long time. With a 4 ½ by 4 layout the ball reacted very good. It read the mid lane very good but didn't pop off the spot. The reaction was very controllable and blended with the pattern. As games went on carry down came about and the ball struggled to make the corner. Flat 10 pins is what you would see from this ball out of box on carry down for me. If you hit it with a little surface like 3000 the ball still rolls nice but gives it just enough to read through the carry down and carry then 10. To me this ball has a desired reaction that everyone need in there bag from house to sport conditions.

My Lights Out Layout: 60 degrees x 4 5/8" x 2 1/2"

When the Lights Out was first announced I was pretty excited to give it a try. Having loved the way my Fast rolled I was sure this was going to be an instant favorite given they shared the same Turbine core. The only difference being the R2S hybrid on the Lights Out versus the R2S pearl which covered the Fast. The Lights Out was definitely getting the same layout as my Fast.

Once I had the chance to throw the Lights Out I saw the same roll that I had with my Fast and a ball which provided a strong reaction off of the dry boards down lane and tremendous continuation. The R2S hybrid cover provides good length in addition to its strong reaction to friction.

Storm intends for the Lights Out to be a replacement and performance upgrade to the Black/Silver Tropical Heat hybrid and that is exactly what the Lights Out provides. Anyone who loves their Tropical Heat hybrid but is ready for a fresh piece to replace it needs to take a look at the Lights Out.

VIdeo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGCIiVADu8U

Conditions I have used the Lights Out on: 40' THS, 42' THS, Bourbon Street (40')

Where it fits in my bag: The Lights Out fits just about the same place in my bag as the Freak'n Frantic as far as strength goes but is the ball I will go to when I need that extra kick off the dry. It's just below my IQ Tour/IQ Tour Pearl/Reign of Power and just above my Black/Cherry Tropical Breeze.

When I use it: When I want to start in the track on a house pattern or medium length challenge pattern. Later in a block when other balls are quitting on me downlane.

My Lights Out is 75 x 4.5 x 40 with the pin over the ring. Im a 240rev 14mph stroker in Hawaii. This ball is amazingly smooth. Stores well for the breakpoint on synthetic lanes. By far the best ball Storm has produced this year. When Storm's Tyler Jensen was here for the regionals he highly recommended this ball for my style of bowling. In the years i've known Tyler he has never been wrong about his equipment.
Remember the 3 P's of bowling. Practice. Practice. And, oh yeah, Practice.

Storm Lights Out
PAP-5 over and ½ up
Ball Speed:  15-17mph
Rev Rate: 300-500
Right Handed
Layout: 4x4x2
Surface Preparation:  OTB

What I wanted from this ball:  To skid throughout the front portion of the lane with a good continuous backend reaction throughout the pins.

Result:  What I expected from this ball.

Compared to the previous tropical breezes and tropical heats I have drilled up, I wanted this ball to be somewhat more of a backend ball.  This is exactly what I got from this ball.  I was very impressed at how much more backend I got out of the lights out compared to my heats.  I enjoy throwing this ball when the lanes are hooking a lot.  The hybrid cover stock helps this ball to continue hard through the pins and have fantastic carry with exceptional skid.

I tested this ball on our home wood lanes with our house pattern.  Our house pattern is a pretty tough shot with dryer heads in the middle portion of the lane creating a huge early backend reaction for most and a massive out of bounds from the first arrow out.  There is a small hold area around the 8 board but you cant miss inside or out.

The first set of 3 games on a freshly oiled pair, I played around the track area and really well.  The Lights Out gave me a great look to the pocket playing around the 8th board and had a nice snap to the pocket.  This ball also had fantastic carry and continued well throughout the pins.  The second set of games, I moved deeper and was able to still get the ball to skid through our dryer center portion of the lanes and have almost the same hitting power I had the previous games.  I was impressed on the length this ball gave me even with our dryer head area.

Compared to the Tropical Heats, The Lights out is a great step up.  I was impressed at how the hybrid cover stock really puts the extra in this ball.

Pro Shop Reaction:  A good selling ball with a great look and price.

Recommendations:  I would recommend this ball for any bowler wanting a ball to get further down the lane and have a pop to the pocket.  Lots of ball for the money!

LANE CONDITION

Length: 40ft

Volume: low volume

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): sport pattern

COMMENTS

Likes: The Lights out is a good ball to have in the bag when the lanes get really burnt. It has alittle more punch on the backend than the Tropical Heat hybrid but it is still very good rolling ball. real good length, which you want when the lanes start to hook.

Dislikes: No real dislike other than it can be alittle to strong and too close to the Freakin Frantic if you aren't careful with the layouts if you own both.

LANE CONDITION

Length:40ft

Volume:24ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Mostly THS but also on the slight longer pattern it peels off the corner quite well going more up the boards.

COMMENTS

Likes: For me the Lights Out was a lot stronger in the mid-lane than I anticipated but still resulting in a sick hit when it gets to the pocket.  It has to be the strongest hitting ball in that price range.  I’ve gotten this one out too far on occasion and it always comes back adding more strikes on the board.  The carry is simply phenomenal.  Extremely predictable read coming out of the pattern.  Layout on this one was 5X5 for me with 2000 with polish.
My intent with this is for use later in the series when the heads start going away and it definitely fits the bill. I’m also a fan of hybrids being the best of both worlds.

Black and silver - what a great combo!  I use this ball when the lanes are too wet for my Natural and too dry for my stronger balls.  This ball rolls so smooth and is so controllable on the backend.  I usually start this ball around 10 and never really have to move.  This ball allows me to play straighter and still open up the backend of the lanes.  I have shot many great games with the Lights Out so far; it is a must have in your bag!

The Light’s Out is the latest release in the Hot Line of bowling balls. The Light’s Out uses the Turbine core that debuted on the original Street Rod solid and pearl bowling balls. It has been used with a few different cover variations, and also name changes. It is no surprise to see the R2S hybrid cover combined with this core. I have been waiting for this combination ever since the Fast and the Furious had the R2S pearl and solid (respectfully) covers on them. The Light’s Out has a kind of “stealth” appearance with its midnight solid and charcoal pearl color combination. The ball comes out of the box finished with a 1500 polished surface and has an Apple Fritter fragrance.
I drilled my Light’s Out with the pin over the ring, and the CG on my grip line. For any of you that have followed my reviews over the years, you would know that this is my favorite layout. I don’t have to use an extra hole and the layout gives me a nice compliment of backend reaction and hook, and allows for me to adjust the cover as needed, for extra traction. This is the same layout that I have on a black and Silver Tropical Heat Hybrid which will be the comparison ball.
The light’s out picks up on the lane a little earlier than the Tropical Hybrid. Even with the same drilling, the cover reads friction earlier, and creates more change of direction than the hybrid. As the front part of the lane goes away, I need to move in faster with the Light’s out than I do with my hybrid. The black silver hybrid had a tendency to either hook too soon on the dry, but not enough in the oil. The Light’s Out doesn’t seem to have that problem when moving into the oil.
I used the Light’s Out on a few different patterns so far, and to my surprise, It seemed to perform on longer patterns as well as medium patterns. One would think that with the nature of the core, that the ball wouldn’t like a 42 foot pattern, but to my surprise, it rolled quit well on a 42 foot USBC white pattern. I started at around second arrow, and just kept my speed a little slower, and allowed the ball time to recover down lane. Pulled shots in held pocket, as well as shots pitched out, recovered.  The Light’s Out has no problem covering the backend boards for me. This core shape has always given me a big backend move, as there isn’t a lot of differential to get the ball to spin up and slow down too fast.
The “Light’s Out will be a fit ball for me. It won’t be the first ball out of the bag, but when I need it, I know I have it, and it will get the job done. This will be a good ball for players that don’t want to spend the money on a high end ball, but would still like versatility with the cover stock. This hybrid cover is the same cover that was used on some very successful balls in Storm’s history, including the HyRoad and the Frantic.
If you are looking for a ball with a modest price point, but find the looks of the Frantic to be a bit “flashy”, drill a Light’s Out. You won’t be disappointed.

Storm Lights Out Ball Review by Casey Murphy

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  400 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  5 across ¾ up

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
Layout:  55, 5, 60  W/ P2 Hole

The Lights Out is the first ball in a series which is designed to replace the popular Tropical Heat series.  This ball in particular is a reboot of the Tropical Heat Black/Silver.  The Lights Out is one of the new staples for the tournament or serious league bowler who encounters friction and carry down.  Just like the Tropical Heat series the Lights Out easily clears the front part of the lane and generates angle on the nastiest of conditions.  I put a fairly stable layout on my Lights Out and I was happy to see the reaction was right in line with my expectations.  Any fans of the Tropical Heat series should immediately put the Lights Out on their list of balls to purchase.

Hand: Left
Ball Speed: 16-17mph
Ball Weight: 15lbs
PAP: 5 left 7/16 up
Degrees of Tilt: 17
Layout: 5 x 5 ½ x 2

The Lights Out I have drilled up is pin over the ring finger with the cg in with
no hole with the factory finish 1500 grit polish. With my favorite cover stock
the R2S and hybrid that is from my all time favorite ball the Hyroad I knew this
was going to be a match made in heaven.

I compared the Lights Out with the tropical heat hybrid and I had to move my
feet right and it ends up being 4 boards stronger than the tropical heat for a LOW
END BALL! When I tried to go straighter to play a more up the boards look the ball kept going through the nose and made me move right. I have always been a believer of using a mid to low performance ball and having a lot of hook potential on an everyday basis. A lot of people think with a LOW END ball like this it would not be a strong ball with no hitting power and BLAH BLAH BLAH, don't let this ball or any LOW END Storm ball fool you. You will be highly surprised on it's performance.

With the R2S cover the Lights Out is angular down lane for a hybrid than any
other hybrid I have thrown. I can stay in the same spot of the lane that I was
with the previous ball when the lanes start to break down. For people who have the
Tropical Heat Hybrid and wanna get a fresh ball to replace the Tropical Heat Hybrid
you can go with the Lights Out and see more motion down lane.
