I got the Lucid in trade for a ball that I wasn't really using. At the time, I didn't really "need" it, but I am always intrigued by pearl balls that are released at dull or matte finishes, so I decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! The Lucid is a great ball for me. I decided not to throw mine at the 4000 matte box finish; instead, I opted for a fresh 2000 matte. At that surface, the ball gives a very solid read of the lane on longer and/or heavier patterns. It gives me a good midlane read and still saves plenty of energy for a smooth, strong backend reaction. I would classify this one as a rolly pearl. It offers plenty of movement down the lane, but it isn't jerky or jumpy at all. Now, if you want it longer and stronger, keep it at box finish, add some polish intentionally, or just wait for the ball to shine up due to use. That is probably the only small complaint I have about the Lucid. It sucks in oil very quickly. As such, it's not uncommon to start a block with the ball at 2000 matte and for it to end up looking quite shiny within 4-5 games; nevertheless, hitting it with abralon every set or two is a small price to pay for a ball with this much performance. Brass tacks, this is a very good piece for longer and/or heavier patterns, lots of control without burnout and/or loss of hitting power.
