Need some input on next ball purchase
« on: August 28, 2014, 10:53:15 AM »
All,

I am looking at at purchasing a new piece to fill a gap in my bag.

Current average is 185 in THS leagues and have just started and placed in the money at a local Sunday Non-Sanctioned PBA Shot Tournaments this summer.
PAP is 4" over 1/2" up. Have decent amount of forward roll and revs are on the low end of avergare. Play off the 12 board at laydown, 10 at arrows. Speed is 16.5 at the pins.

I have an aggressively drilled Hammer Jigsaw and a Hammer Arson Low-Flare drilled to go long with a smooth breakpoint. Obviously I missing that mid-range ball for medium patterns / carrydown situations.  Jigsaw is great on fresh and wet patterns but alot of over/under once the lanes transition.  Love the Low-Flare but very shot specific. If It aint dry outside the 10 board it wont come back hard enough.
Basically looking for an mid-upper range ball that is gonna get me through the heads but still have enough teeth to come back to the pocket.

So I have been talking with my pro shop guy and doing alot of research and need some more input. Stuck between Storm Optimus and Roto Grip Hysteria.

Sorry for the wall of text. Just wanted to give as much as possible.
Any and all input much appreciated!

If you're just picking between those 2, I'd go with the Hysteria. It rolls so good it's not fair to the other mid range pieces in the storm/Roto lineup.

If you'd want to stick with hammer, there are quite a few options. Absolut Curve or Flip and Amp or Amp Up are the main ones that come to mind for being a solid medium and/or transition balls. You could also go with a widow or jet black taboo

Hysteria! Being a solid, you can almost do anything surface wise to it. An extremely good piece.

Thanks for the input. The more research I do the more I am leaning towards the Hysteria. However, since you mentioned Hammer and my other 2 are Hammers, my pro shop is storm/roto supplier. Good guy/good driller but tell he is def biased. But havent done alot of research on the Flip. Just was thinking about using a brand that my house is full of plus prices are pretty close if i order off the internet plus shipping and drilling compared to wrapping all in one at the pro shop. Guess really depends on what i feel comfortable with and my expectations / drilling layout / surface prep
