New ball...
« on: March 03, 2017, 12:55:32 AM »
As the title states I'm in the market for a new ball my new code black was just too strong all night and I couldn't keep it on the right side of the head. When I broke out my tour pearl I hated the way it moved down lane. Any suggestions on what could fit behind my code black. Stranglely my Code Black came back around in my third game. It's the end of game one and game two that I struggle to get it to strike. Maybe need more practice lol

I see that you are looking at the NRP. That is stronger then the code black. The timeless I do have and I love it. I'm thinking it's all on how you have the balls drilled and what you are looking for. I am a hammer head. I would look at there line to. If you go Hammer you can look into the Viral Hybrid or Viral solid

I haven't thrown either but from what I've seen, the difference in the timeless and code black is that the timeless just gets into its roll sooner. If the code black is too much, the timeless would also be too much. You're going to wanna look in the wreckem family if you want to go the roto grip route.

I have been looking at the wreckem a lot. Mainly for my wife who is a back up bowler but reading more about it makes me wonder if it'd work for me also.

I'm going to be buying either a no rules, haywire or dare devil trick here in the next few weeks but then I'm joining a league with the wife. That gives you a choice of a low end ball at the end of the league. I'm gonna try to get one the the wreck it series.

Is there anything like the wreckem line in storm that I should look at?

Not really.  The closest thing might be a match pearl if you had to have the Storm logo on it. Otherwise, being as Storm and RotoGrip are actually the same people, I would stay with the Wreck line.

The Roto Grip Wreck-Em might be a good choice for you. With a fairly standard pin up drilling it might work out well for you, but if you get one I would definitely recommend consulting your pro shop operator on how to get it set up and drilled.

Just wondering going solely on core specs...wouldn't the Rocket be close to the Wrecker? seems the RG/Diff/and even Hybrid cover would put them similar (but once again, I have not thrown EITHER the Rocket OR Wrecker)?

Rocket is a little stronger from watching others throw them. R2S Hybrid is a stronger than the cover on the Wrecker and the core has just a little more to it I believe.

You might try sanding that Code Black with a 3000 or 4000 abralon pad (or having it done at your pro shop) and then polishing it. This should get you more length, a little less hook, and perhaps with your preferred shot, allow you to bowl on more medium conditions and more easily and often find the pocket with your Code Black.

What kind of drilling set up do you have on that ball? I don't have a Code Black yet, but after trying one, I do want to get one. I think I would try a basic pin up setup on it, and probably go with the 4000 abralon and polish myself.

Like a few others have said, the Wreck 'Em would be a good choice, or perhaps even one of the Hustles. Match Pearl would be the best bet for a Storm ball as the SkyRocket would be too strong and the Tropicals are probably too weak.

I am running a pretty standard pin up set by my pro shop. I'm still fairly a newb only in my third season. I'm still learning to stay behind the ball but getting much better averaging around 170-180. I'm find my code black is burning up around the middle of the second game. I think the wreck em might be a good fit. In the inter my league is at a really old beat up wood lanes but summer I'll probably run at brand new synthetics.

During demo days late last month with storm I really enjoyed the torrent with fresh oil on the new strings. I'm open to suggestions but am leaning toward the wreckem.

This is true. And on top of that, I have the Wreck Em as more ball and rollier after it makes its shape. The Match Pearl lopes more down the lane and then has a skid/arc motion.

No offense, but if you're averaging 170-180 you don't have a problem with your spot "burning up" or other trendy phrases you read on the internet.

But if you want something weaker and want to stay in Utah, look at the Rotogrip HP1 line. The Hustle POW or RIG.   And buy a spare ball :)
