Advice on building a storm/roto grip arsenal
on: March 28, 2018, 03:16:50 PM
Need advice on building a storm, rg arsenal. After using ebonite for awhile realized storm just matches up better for my game. Stores more energy and makes a better move off the spot for my slow speed, approximately 14 mph with medium tilt, rotation, revs. Benchmark ball right now is a pin up hyroad that works on all the medium patterns. Use it 80% of time. Always loved the high rg core going back to the black thunder, blue, and thunder roads. Its a proven core that just works for me. Need to rebuild my arsenal with storm around this hyroad. Was thinking hyroad nano for oil, step up. Hyroad pearl and rg hustle ink as my two step downs. Is there enough of a gap between hyroad, hyroad pearl, and ink to fill my arsenal? Not a fan of asymmetrical, they burn up to much for my slow ball speed. Any advice would be appreciated. Btw I have an original blue thunder pearl nib that has a one inch pin that I think Im going to drill and use for the burn.

I like what you have so far.

There is always a spot for !Q tour solids though...a bag with a hyroad, hustle ink, and a !Q tour solid is better than most people's bags period.

In the bag [Dream, Respect, Respect Pearl, Breakdown]
*Now Testing* Honey Badger, Black Boost, AZO Cheater Hybrid
Coming soon.. Boo-Yah, Respect Hybrid

Thanks for the response. How close is an iq tour solid to a hyroad nano? I know lots of people love the iqs, I had an iq tour years back when I was using storm and it burned up, quit on the backend for me. Low rg balls tend to be to much ball for my slow speed.

Sounds pretty good, and yes there's enough of a difference between the 3 you mentioned.  Might check out the Drive for a stronger ball that still has a high RG, but will give you a different shape than the Nano.

Thanks, ya I use my hyroad even on the tighter mediums. When I get in trouble is when I get carry down and the hyroad cant make the corner. Definitely need something stronger that will store energy and give me that little more pop on the back through the carry down. Was thinking the stronger cover hyroad nano, but not sure.

As a higher RG ball can't the Torrent handle more oil than the Hy-Road Nano?   Does grab a little earlier though.

Thanks guys. Dont know anything about the torrent. As I said in first post used ebonite for a bit and just now coming back to storm/rg. Not that familiar with the new storm stuff. Just know I love the motion of the hyroad and that higher rg core for me. How much more oil will the nano handle than the hyroad? Anyone?

Noooo, the Nano cover is quite a bit stronger than R2S Solid.  I'd put the Hyroad Nano at a solid 3 boards stronger than the Torrent.

Hey Luke, you say the nano is three boards stronger than the torrent. Then it must be at least that many boards stronger than the original hyroad no? If the nano is 3-5 stronger than my hyroad then I have my oil ball in the nano. Thanks Luke, guys for the info.

I'll never sway someone away from a Hy-Road Pearl purchase, so yes grab one. I like Luke's suggestion of the Drive then above the Hy-Road.

Not sure if you're planning on bowling only league or sport shot tournaments. Also not sure how big of a bag you're looking to have but the IQ Tour is a good control ball. I liked my Ink for a month or so and then got kinda bored/over it. Not sure why but it's became more meh for me.

You might like the Match-Up Hybrid as well.

My hyroad is money for league, so Im set there. Looking for an arsenal for tournaments, and a nice 6 ball variety. I think Im going with my first instinct. How does this look guys?  1) Heavy oil ball/hyroad nano. 2) med oil ball/hyroad. 3) med light oil ball/hyroad pearl. 4) light oil ball/hustle ink. 5) burn ball/blue thunder. 6) plastic spare ball. Like I said earlier, the fe2 high rg core works for my slow speed, so going to stick with whats proven for me. Hoping there is a 2-3 board diff between these balls would be perfect, with that lopey, smooth control motion that my benchmark hyroad gives me. Been to tournaments bringing 8-10 balls and find to many end up rolling the same and it just seems to confuse me. So I think narrowing it down to 6 is fine to simplify. I have a personal ball spinner so can adjust covers as needed. Thanks for all the help guys. This is a great forum for help, info.
