OG Hyroad Best Layout
« on: January 09, 2018, 01:58:23 PM »
What is the best lay out for the OG Hy Road. I am a two hander. I do not know my rev rate etc, etc. I do not have any thumb holes in my balls, so i don't have a PP. My PSO uses Radical (MO) two finger diagram, but I want to hear opinions and see what is the most used layout..

Personally 5"x40 on the pearl and I would do the same on the OG if I punched one up.
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III
Trend
IQ Tour

4"x30 with double thumb.  Definitely not recommended for anyone with rev rate over 300 on anything less than a flood.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

I would go with your favorite layout based upon optimizing the flare for your game. For me, I like longer pins compared to most. Layouts with longer pins (for me) usually allow the ball to see the lane the way it was intended. Don't try to drill it super strong if you normally don't do that to try and make it something it's not.

I bowled no-thumb all of last season, and I drilled quite a few balls for myself in the process. As such, I assume you were referring to the guide provided here:

http://radicalbowling.com/tech-docs/a-radical-look-into-no-thumb-drill-patterns

If that's true, I would advise using the layout you like the best and then adjusting surface to suit your needs. By nature, the Hyroad is pretty clean up front and makes a good move down lane. I believe in letting balls be what they're meant to be, so I would keep the pin in the 2.5-3.5" from PAP region, and then I'd play with surface to get the shape you like.

For me, my Hyroad (a very old and well-used one) was best at 1000 matte. If I smoothed it out or added polish, it was too long for my speed/rev matchup. At 1000, it read the lane and was smooth, a great benchmark ball. But, long story short, I'd put a pretty basic layout on it, one that you've liked in your other no-thumb balls, and then I'd use surface adjustments to fine tune. When adjusting surface, keep in mind that sometimes it takes a lot of experimenting before you find what you like. I probably put 10 different surface adjustments to my Fanatic BTU before I found the surface I liked. Once I found it, it became one of the best no-thumb balls I had in the bag. Just be patient, and I'm sure you'll love your Hyroad!
