Storm Hy Road Solid vs Roto Grip Rumble
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:00:29 PM »
I had a roto grip rumble that rolled very well for me and I was wondering how the hy road solid compares to it.

HyRoad is stronger overall. Stronger cover, stronger core. My doubles partner in our scratch league has been killing it with the HyRoad Solid

The HR Solid is stronger overall. They are good compliments as far as the Rumble being a step down dull piece.

With it being stronger overall, if I put a earlier rolling layout on the hy road solid will it burn up quick?

Too many factors to give you an answer. We'd need to know about you and the conditions you would be using it on, lane surface...etc

I bowl in two different houses, both of my leagues are 5 man leagues. One house has a 37' shot and the other house has a 42' shot. The 37' shot breaks down pretty quick, where the 42' shot tends to not break down that much. Naturally the 37' shot provides more backend compared to the 42' shot. My speed is 17 to 18 mph, while my rev rate is 400 to 450 rpm. I'm a 220 avg bowler.

Stick to the rumble. The guy I bowl with has similar stats to you and the HyRoad Solid just becomes too much ball, I think he would do even better with the Rumble

So with the same layout, the hy road solid would provide me with a step up from the rumble?

Yes, I do the same with a crossroad/uproar..that uproar/rumble core is much more smooth off the spot and gets down the lane a touch better...

My stats are similar to yours. 450 rpm 18 mph at the pins. I get more use from my Rumble on ths than HyRoad Solid as HR Solid is a little much and creates angles that the ball isn't intended for. Not knowing much about you or exactly how your patterns play. I would look pin down Rumble or OutCry on 37 ft. And stronger layout on an Hysteria or Optimus for the longer pattern. I can't say enough good things about what I am seeing from my Hysteria right now. It is smoother off the spot than the Optimus, but has easy length and plenty of continuation. It is almost as if the Nomad series and original HyRoad were combined to make this gem.

Really? The Optimus is pretty smooth downlane.

My Hysteria is smooth as butter. But the layouts do differ. And a co staffer in the area definitely has a stronger move off the spot with his Optimus as well.

So if I go pin above the ring with the Hy-Road Solid and pin under the ring on the Rumble will they still compliment each other without overlapping?

Pin down will help keep the ball rolly. The low differential on the Rumble will keep that piece from flaring as much as the HyRoad Solid, which has much more diff. Their RG's are similar and covers, I would put the Storm cover as more angular and the Roto cover smoother. Do you want same motions but different strengths? Or one more mid lane read roll and the other cleaner and more angular? I hear a lot of different "compliment" stories in the shop, and the customer have a different idea than myself.

I put my pin in my ring, and cg 1 inch right of center grip on my Rumble. It ends up being about a 4x4 with a double thumb weight hole. This ball is angular for me with the hole. Before the hole, it rolled the whole way down the lane and sometimes left flat 10's because it was too rolly. The DT hole really added about 3-4 boars downlane. I went up on the surface to 4000 as well. My HyRoad Solid is a 5x4 pin up with a hole 5 inches over from center grip. For me, they roll similar but the HyRoad Solid picks up better on fresh conditions due to core numbers.

If you want a similar roll compliment, go pin above the ring on the Rumble and pin above the bridge on the HyRoad Solid with cg placements being the same. So a 4x4 or so the Rumble and a 5x4 on the HR S. Now all of this is based on my stats. 450 rpm 18 mph. 5x1 up PAP low tilt medium rotation. I do hope some of this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
